This game is a lot more visually impressive than Sonic 1. Lots of clean sprites, although the game definently doesn't stand out as one of the best on the Genesis. The music is great in this games. Lots of memorable tunes.
The biggest innovation in this game was the spin dash. Basically, it allowed Sonic to go blazingly fast from a standstill. This was probably one of the greatest additions to the Sonic series.
Overall, another classic. Rated 9.
