Phantasy Star Online Episode 3 C.A.R.D. Revolution

Okay, you all know as well as I that a card game would be a joke to the PSO series. But it never hurt to just try it. After all, it could be good, right? The big news about Segas new PSO was that it was a different step in a new direction. After all, because of the take-turn element thing, this PSO could be just like the old Phantasy Stars. But sadly I cannot concur, because this PSO does not do a very good job at being anything like the old Phantasy Stars. Episode 3 focuses more on battles that just became too boring to quickly.

First, graphics. The graphics in this game are very nice and one of its few highpoints. Amazing detail went into every weapon card and monster card there were. Not very much to say about graphics, except I felt really disappointed that you cant explore the whole world, just the boring little battlefield you were on. This deducts the nice eye candy in its predecessors. But still, what world there is, is still nice.

Graphics- 8.5

Next we have gameplay. Now the gameplay is a lot more complex. Choose hunters who are good guys (apparently) that use weapon cards that make them hold weapons to attack and block with these same weapons. Then you have Arks, supposed bad guys who throw cards on the ground(I know, that sounds retarded) that summon monsters to do your evil bidding. Mwahaha! Too bad the monsters thing is quite limited and a hunter can easily walk up to a Ark, slap them around a bit, then slap them again. Still, strategizing is important as is card placement and the deck you use. There are a whole ton of cards in the game. Not to mention the fact that you win cards after every battle. Still gameplay feels to limited compared to past Phantasy Stars. I mean come on, thats what Talis types are for! Throwing cards!

Gameplay- 6

Next Music/sound! The music in this game isnt too shabby, though not as good as PSO Ep 1&2. The music gets stale fast , but still isnt too bad. Nothing much to say here. There is no more of that addictive noise you get when cutting up Boomas in PSO 1&2 sadly.

Music/sound- 8

And now, dumdum dumdum! Replay Value! Which is.very limited. Fight battle after battle of the same fight with no moving around. But if your online, it probably would be better. But still lacking compared to the addictiveness of Ep. 1&2.

Simply, replay value- 7

Rounded overall score: 7.3
