| Phantasy Star 2 was one of the greatest games of its time. Unfortunately, I don't really think it stands up to the test of time. Some of the stuff used here is just way too old school for us to play today. The first gripe- the amount of random battles you need to fight just to enter a dungeon. There's nothing really wrong with the battles themselves, but the difficulty of this game forces you to battle and heal and repeat for a long time before even entering the first dungeon. Expect at least 2 hours of leveling before actually entering the first dungeon. I suppose if you have the pateince it's all right. The second and most important gripe- the dungeons are way too big. The first dungeon of this game is harder than any dungeon in any other Phantasy Star game with the exception of PS4's Air Castle. The real problem is that it will take up way too much of your time. Not many people can offer up four hours so you can pass through one long dungeon. Again, if you have the patience, I suppose it's ok. So, what's good about it? Well the battle system is one of the best of the time, and its extremely entertaining, which is a high point because you're going to have to battle quite a lot in this game. The other thing is the story, which is one of the best that the 16 bit games have to offer. Overall, its an 8- a good game that could be better. Its solid, but it may not be solid enough for many. |
