FOREST MAZE
Exit to Rose Town.
ROSE TOWN
Rose Town is all cheery now. Go into Gaz's House (Rose Town Inn) and talk to Gaz.
"Gaz: Geno! You came back! Mommy!"
He rushes to bring his mom here.
"Gaz: SEE, Mom? THIS is Geno I was talking about!"
"My, my, what a fabulous costume! It must be kind of hot for the person wearing it, though."
"Gaz: Awww, forget it, mom. All right, Geno, let's play!"
"Geno: How I wish I could! But Mario and I must leave now to find... ...the missing Star Pieces..."
"Gaz: Star Pieces? You mean like shooting stars? What for?"
"Geno: Well... How can I explain this..."
Mario, Mallow, and Geno talk together and put on a skit.
"Geno: Well Gaz,... it's loke this..."
Mario punches to let out a "star" while Mallow raises his hands up to the sky. Mario drops stars to Mallow.
"This is how it used to be, but now... it's like..."
Same but no falling stars and a sad Mallow.
"THIS! Do you get it?"
"Gaz: Uh uh... NOPE! You lost me!"
Mario, Mallow, and Geno fall.
"Geno: Well, let's just say that if things stay the way they are, your wishes will never come true."
"Gaz: WHAT?! So you mean even if I grow up, I won't ever be strong and cool like you?!"
Geno nods.
"Geno: No one's wishes will come true until the Star Pieces are found and the Star Road repaired. Which is why I have chosen to join these two in order to find the missing Star Pieces."
"Gaz: So that's it......! Well, Mario needs all the help he can get!"
Mario tries to punch the tyke but is held back by Mallow.
"Geno, I have a lot of dreams! Please, go fix the Star Road and make sure they all come true!"
"Geno: That's a promise!"
"Gaz: COOL!!"
"Gaz: Oh, wait! Wait a minute!"
He runs to the side and comes back.
"Gaz: This is yours, Geno, so take it along with you."
You get a Finger Shot. ("Got a 'Finger Shot'!".)
"Geno: Thanks for being a good sport, Gaz. I'll see you when I get back!"
Equip Geno with the Finger Shot and the Trueform Pin. Exit and go to the Pipe Vault.
PIPE VAULT
Go down the pipe. Head up jumping over the lava to get to the next section, timing your jumps to avoid Sparkies if you wish. Jump over Goombas and jump when the Thwomp is about to hit the ground and go down the second pipe. Go down the next pipe. Run up ahead collecting coins and when you get to the end press down to duck under and get the Frog Coin and jump on the trampoline. Go back and go down the same pipe. Walk three blocks up and jump to uncover a hidden platform so jump on it then up to the higher platform. Go three blocks ahead and jump to uncover a Surprise Box with a Frog Coin. Go another four blocks ahead and jump up to uncover another Surprise Box with a Frog Coin. Hit the Treasure Box for a Flower. Jump onto the trampoline. Go down the next pipe. This takes you to the "Goomba Thumpin' Mini-Game". Go down the last pipe. Jump across the platforms and avoid the Piranha Plant in the red pipe. Watch out for the "Walking Piranha Plants" as you'll lose 2 coins every time you come in contact with them. Head down the green pipe at the end of this section. In the next section jump up on the floating platform and hit the Treasure Box above it to get a Flower. Make your way to the next moving platform that's above the Walking Piranha Plants. The Box above this platform isn't worth hitting as you'll lose more coins in the process if you try too often. Continue on you way to the next pipe and go down it to emerge in Yo'ster Isle.
YO'STER ISLE
Save and jump behind the Save Point to uncover a Surprise Box with a Frog Coin. Head down to the main section of Yo'ster Isle. Talk to Yoshi near the bottom left corner of the island.
"Yoshi: (Mario! Glad you finally made it to Yo'ster Isle, home of the Mushroom Derby! Say...now that you're here, we could use your help. Please talk to a few of my pals here and... What? You can't understand them? Well...hop aboard and I'll be your interperter!"
Jump on him. Talk to the Red Yoshi near the top of the island.
"(Hey, Yoshi! Think you can beat the old Boshi today?)"
"Yoshi: (Thanks! I've got MAJOR support on my side, so I can probably win today!)"
Yoshi gets the Cookies. ("Yoshi [not you] got some Cookies!".)
Go down and talk to the Blue Yoshi with shades (Boshi).
"Boshi: (SO! YOu brought the Cookies. All right! Consider yourself lucky today. You've got yourself a race... One-on-one!)"
The screen goes black with only Mario and Yoshi and then Toad shows up.
"Toad: Hello again! Get ready, the "Mushroom Derby" is coming up. Want instructions?"
One and Two show up separetly and in beat. Try to tap with them.
"Now, shall we go to the race?"
"Boshi:
(This is as easy as it gets, man.)"
"Boshi: (Come back when you're SERIOUS! Now, I think those Cookies there belong to ME!)"
"Yoshi: (Looks like I need a little more practice. Oh, well... let's try again sometimes.)"
"(Wow! Unbelievable! You just beat BOSHI!)"
"(Starting today Yoshi's the new BOSS around HERE!)"
"Boshi: (Since WHEN have you been able to sprint like that?! Oh...well... I had my day in the sun. Let me give you a tip! Race someone slow. That way you'll be able to stash away all the Cookies.)"
"Yoshi: (But we don't need a Boss! Anyway, I just want to race!)"
"Yoshi: (Come on, Boshi! Let's see what you're made of!)"
"Boshi: (Hmmm...All right! Just stay outta my way! Oh here's the Cookie Stash for the winner.)"
"Yoshi: (Thanks to you, Mario, I finally beat that rascal! And we can all race together now!)"
"Yoshi: (Here's something to remember me by!)"
You get three Yoshi Cookies. ("Got a 'Yoshi Cookie'!".)
"(Congratulations! Yoshi Came in first! A prize goes to the winner!)"
You get some Cookies. ("You got *#* Cookie(s)!".)
If you are carrying too much.
(You're carrying a lot of things! I'll store these *#* for you. Don't worry...I won't eat them. That makes a total of *#*.)
"(Next time you're in trouble during battle, use this to give me a call.)"
You'll be able to play the proper Mushroom Derby whenever you want to. If you lose you'll have to talk to the Red Yoshi to get Cookies and Boshi to try again. Exit and go to Moleville.
MOLEVILLE
Go to the Item Shop and buy a Punch Glove, Cymbals and 3 Work Pants. Equip them all and stock up on other items. Here's a list of what's available:
Punch Glove- 36
Finger Shot -50
Cymbals- 42
Mega Shirt- 22
Mega Cape- 22
Mega Pants- 22
Work Pants- 22
Mid Mushroom- 20
Maple Syrup- 30
Save in the inn and head up to the mountains. You'll see the almost vanquished Bowser Army.
Bowser is standing on a rock and his fellow troops, minus the Terrapins, are practicing below. He stomps down and they form lines. A Goomba walks up to him.
"Goomba: Bowser, most of our allies have run off! What will we do?"
A Magikoopa walks up.
"Magikoopa: We've only had experience fighting Mario. These new guys are too much!"
Bowser scares them in place.
"Bowser: Shut up, all of you! I'm the biggest, baddest brute around, and don't you forget it. But if Mario hears that I've been kicked out of my own castle... My reputation will be ruined! Even I have an image to keep up you know! Let's show 'em who's the boss around here."
Bowser, Goombas, and then the Magikoopas march away.
march off. Head into the mine.
COAL MINES
"Ma'Mole: Oh dear! I sure hope the kids are OK..."
"I know how you're feelin' but mopin' round here ain't gonna help a thing!""
She walks out.
"That's what I TOLD her, but I don't know if I'd be feelin' any different if I was her!"
"We're getting nowhere FAST! We'll never reach the kids at this rate!"
"See that up there? That's the old entrance to the mines... ...But we can't reach it anymore. If only that fellow...uh... Mario were here! He could reach that in a heart beat!"
"What...?! Well speak o' the devil!"
They jump up and down.
"Well, I'll be a Goomba's uncle!! If it ain't HIM in the flesh! Mario, you're a life saver! Mario, have you heard the news?"
"Mario, will you help rescue them?"
They ask up again if you'll help.
"Thanks, Mario! Well, there's the entrance up there!"
They walk under it.
"Here, hop up on our shoulders!"
Jump on their shoulders and jump up to the ledge above. Go through the doorway and make your way through the room to the next section. This next section has the Treasure Hunter and a teleporting Sparky. Go through the doorway below. Jump on the trampoline but... The only problem is there's no hole above it so Mario whacks his head on the ceiling and gets knocked out.
"Croco: Coins... Beautiful COINS! Grab the COINS!"
"Croco: Listen up! Let's leave dis half-wit Mario here and SPLIT! Anyone got a beef wit' that?!"
You wake up but Croco and the Bandits escape.
"OH OH! He took the coins! Chase Croco and get those coins back!"
Go through the door and follow the tracks. You've caught up to Croco.
"Croco: Hoo boy! Looks like a dead end, here. But not to worry... Heh, heh...I've got a bomb...! Never leave home without 'em."
He plants a bomb and they escape so keep following him. Exit to the next section. After he bombs another wall, go down, right, and in the next room, fight the Crook hiding behind the crate near the end of the room.
"Flunkie: (Sob, sob...) Just...you wait...we'll getcha for this! Maybe not today, maybe not tomarrow, but someday..."
You get a Flower Tab for defeating him. ("He didn't have the coins on him, but he dropped a 'Flower Tab'!".) Head right to the room with the trampoline. There's another Crook behind the trampoline so defeat it to get another Flower Tab. (He says the same thing.) Head up to the next room. There's another Crook behind the L-shaped crates so defeat him for a Flower Tab. (Ditto.) Wait until Croco runs past or run around this section the way he went the first time (running the opposite way may be faster). Anyhow once you touch him, you're in for a battle.
Croco- 750 HP
Mario should use the Punch Glove or Super Jump on Croco while Mallow should be use Cymbals when he is not healing or using items and Geno should use the Geno Beam. Halfway through the battle, Croco will steal your items so now you must conserve FP for Mallow's HP Rain so everyone should use Physical Attacks.
"Croco: You want them back? You're got to take me down first!"
Soon, he'll die.
"Crco: Yeouch! Enough already! Here's your junk. I'm outta here!"
You'll get 50 coins, the coins he stole, your items and the Bambino Bomb.
"Got the coins back! AND... ...Picked up a BOMB, too!"
Keep heading left in the mine and then head up. Talk to Pa'Mole.
"Pa'Mole: Seems like you found something mighty useful! My kids, Dyna & Mite are trapped back there. Let's blast through and find 'em!"
Mario nods.
"Pa'Mole: Gwo ho! Thanks, Mario!"
He places the bomb down, they back up, and it explodes.
"Now, stand back and let me get things going..."
He's blasted a hole.
"Pa'Mole: Let's follow the tracks to the end. What? The star? It's probably in the back. Thanks a million, Mario! Let's mosey along now."
Mario stops him.
"Pa'Mole: Oh...guess you're right. I'd just be a burden on you fellas... Well then, I'm countin' on ya to find the kids, you hear?"
Mario nods.
"Well, thanks a lot, Mario! Guess I'll be goin' back to tell Ma 'bout everythin'..."
He'll blow a hole in the rock using the Bambino Bomb.
He leaves so continue. Go through the lower passage and follow the railroad but as you get to the end, a Shyguy on a Mine Cart will push you back blocking the lower section and dropping a Frog Coin in the process. Climb the boxes to the higher section and head up. There's a Treasure Box ahead with a "Invincibility Star" so hit it. Run up, right, jump onto the crates to the higher section, head up, head left, run into the four Bob-ombs, save, backtrack to the last room, and hit the Treasure Box to get 150 coins. Go ahead, hit the Treasure Box by the Save Point for a Recovery Mushroom, save, jump up on the stack of crates, and jump right to get a Flower. Head up, walk around the guy throwing bombs and walk into his side. He's Punchinello and you have to fight him.
"Punchinello: Good day. The name's Nello...PUNCHINELLO!"
"Mallow: Punchinello...? Never heard of ya."
"Punchinello: They say I'm a hot head, but I'll show them! You...YOU will make me famous! So long!"
Punchinello- 1200HP
produces from his mouth:
Microbomb- 30HP
Bob-Omb- 90 HP
Mezza Bomb- 150 HP
Mario and Geno should use physical attacks while Mallow should use Thunderbolt to destroy the Bob-ombs. He starts off with Microbombs and after you do enough damage, he goes to Bob-ombs.
"Punchinello: Not bad. Not bad! Now let's up the ante!"
After you do even more damage, he uses Mezzo Bombs.
"Punchinello: Grrrrr... All right! It's CLOBBERING TIME!"
Finally you'll defeat him.
"Punchinello: Arghhh!!"
"Punchinello: I must be dreaming! I'm ruined! I didn't want to do this, but now, I have NO CHOICE!!"
Mallow walks up to him.
"Mallow: I think he's bluffing."
"Puchinello: Simmer down, fluffy! I'm not gonna waste this on YOU. Who knows what might happen!"
Geno walks up.
"Geno: Take your best shot!"
Mario too.
"Punchinello: Enough! I've got my pride. Now you're in for it."
He pulls back.
"Huh? What the hay? Why isn't it working?"
He stomps the ground and a HUGE bomb falls and crushes him!
"Argh!!"
Mallow walks to the bomb and faces Mario.
"Mallow: Mario!! If this thing explodes, we're history!!"
They start thinking.
"Geno: This is a fine mess!"
"Mallow: Let's scram! NOW!"
They agree but a coal lands on the wick which ignites it.
"Owww!"
"Geno: It's gonna blow!!"
"Mallow: NO!!"
Kaboom! They're out of the battle but covered in soot.
"Mallow: What on earth ...WAS THAT?"
"Geno: Well, we won the battle. Now I hope we don't lose the war. Where are Dyna and the star?"
The Orange Star falls down.
"Geno: I guess my question's just been answered..."
"Mallow: Come on Mario, let's GO!"
The star floats around, sprinkling them better. The Orange Star will float to Mario, he'll grab it, and it's added to your "Star Pieces" list.
"Geno: Come on! Let's get this show on the road."
Head up to Dyna and Mite pushing the mine cart.
"Dyna: Urgh...! This...won't...budge...arghhh! I hate this stupid thing!"
Mario walks up to her.
"Dyna: Help me, here! Give the mine car a push!"
Mario jumps down, Dyna and Mite get in, and Mario reads the instructions.
"Care to read the warnings?"
"Dyna: Yeah! A mine cart ride! Yippie! This is gonna be FUN!"
Finish the mine cart Mini-Game and at the Mole's house, Ma'Mole walks to the door.
"Ma'Mole: I wonder how those kid're doing? Sure wish they'd hurry home!"
"Pa'Mole: Settle down, woman! I asked Mario to help us out, so I reckon he'll bring 'em back when he's good 'n ready!"
She walks to the table.
"Ma'Mole: I just have this odd feeling that they'll be dropping in on us any minute now..."
Outside, Mario, Dyna, and Mite are flying in a mine cart. Back in the house.
"Pa'Mole: They still gotta use the door like everyone else, Ma. Now settle down!"
Mario, Dyna, and Mite crash through the roof. Pa and Ma'Mole gather round them.
"Dyna: We're home!"
"Ma'Mole: Gracious! They really DID drop in on us! Oh, my poor babies! Are you okay? Little Mite, are you hurt?!"
"Dyna: Naw, we're okay Ma. Isn't that right, Mite? We had FUN!"
Ma'Mole walks behind Dyna.
"Mite: Ma-ma! Pa-pa!"
"Ma'Mole:
He's been knocked senseless! You poor baby, you're safe now."
Dyna gets a scolding.
"Ma'Mole: Haven't I told you often enough, to never go into the mines by yourself?!"
"Pa'Mole: That's enough, Ma. Just be happy to have 'em back! We haven't thanked Mario, proper."
"Ma'Mole: I'm so embarrassed! Mario, we can't thank you enough for everythin'. What's that? The roof, you say? Now, that don't matter none, right Pa?"
"Pa'Mole: It ain't nothing at all! You just leave any repairs to me. Give me a holler if you ever need a hand with your place! Thanks again for bringing our babies back to us."
The screen goes black with Mario in the middle.
"You've found Dyna, Mite, and a Star Piece... But where is Toadstool?"
Mario does his victory dance.
