The Sun Still Shines Noin watched as the birds chirped the day away, and looked up at the sunny sky. For most people it was a beautiful day, but for her it might as well have been dark and rainy. It didn't matter, it was all the same to her; whether it was sunny or rainy she didn't care... It had all happened seven years ago, yet she still felt as if it was yesterday. She thought about it, about him, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. She couldn't let go of the past, but the world seemed to go on oblivious of the her heartache. *"I love you, Milliardo," said Lucrezia to her imperturbable boyfriend. They had been involved for a very long time, and she had said those words to him every time she felt he needed to be reassured. But all he did was sigh, hold her closer and kiss the top of her head. He'd never said those words. Yet, she knew that he loved her, or else he wouldn't be with her. * Noin couldn't stop the tears that fell from her eyes at the memory. The memories hurt, but she treasured them. It was all she had left. She'd never seen what was about to happen coming. She couldn't help but ask herself why? Why did he leave? Why when she loved him so much? After he'd left, she hadn't known what to do, he was her life, she lived solely for him, yet he didn't care. He'd left, and it still felt like it'd been only yesterday. God, but she still loved him so much! She would never forget him, he would always be her only love, forever. She hadn't even looked at another man since he'd left. And she never would, she guessed. She would never, ever be happy with anybody else, so why try? Why when her love for him hadn't dimmed even with the passing of years? Noin didn't know what to do, she'd been going through life as an empty shell since he'd left. When she smiled everyone knew it wasn't genuine, when she laughed it sounded hollow. Seven years and she still didn't feel better. She hadn't gotten over it despite what all her friends had told her. Her house was empty, it had been since he'd left. It was drafty even though it was such beautiful day outside. Cold and dark, just like the everything about her. Everthing in the house reminded her of him; every nook and corner. Some of her friends had suggested she move from there, but she couldn't. The house was a reminder of him, and she liked to remember him despite everything that'd happened; it was her own personal hell sometimes. She sat in her seat by the window as another wave of memories assaulted her. *Noin walked into the bedroom she shared with her boyfriend, Milliardo, only to be shocked out of her wits. There he was pulling all his suits and various other articles of clothing from their place in the closet and drawers. "Milliardo, what are you doing?" she whispered. She walked further into the room and blocked his path to his suitcases. He turned his gaze away from her eyes, then answered, "What does it look like to you? I'm packing." "I-- I... but why?" she whispered again, fearing that tears might fall from her eyes before he could explain. It may not be what it looked like at all. "I'm leaving this house... I'm leaving you," he explained. He moved away from her and stuffed the last of his clothes in his bag. "What do you mean? Why?" she asked frantically. Milliardo sighed and turned to look at her, but not at her eyes. "This," he gestured to the room, "us, isn't working for me anymore. I have to find something meaningful, something that I know will last forever." He walked to where she was standing and put a hand to her cheek, which by now was wet with tears. She took his hand and held on. "No, no! Please tell me what I did wrong! What did I do, please don't leave me! I love you." "It's not just you, it's us, Lu," Milliardo said and took his hand from hers. He walked out the room and to the stairs, but she followed. "No please don't! Don't leave, don't leave. I love you!" she said running after him. Milliardo stepped off the last step and turned to her. With icy blue eyes he said, "Don't make this difficult, I've made a decision that will be the best for both of us." "But why? I don't understand." Milliardo didn't answer that, he just walked out the door and put all his things in his car. Without a backwards glance toward the house where he'd lived in for so long, or the woman with whom he'd shared that house with, Milliardo Peacecraft drove away. Lucrezia had stared in the direction long after the car had dissapeared. Her tears never stopping... her heart breaking. She didn't know how long she'd just stood there, but it was much later when she went inside. * So long ago, yet so unforgettable. Her pain felt new still, and it seemed that it would never leave her. The only thing he had left her with that was truly hers because he had taken her heart with him. Yet... in the outside it seemed like nothing had ever hurt her so much. But inside, it was inside where she couldn't let go. She still loved him. Her broken heart refused to let go of him. She sometimes thought of how things might have been if he had never left. If he had loved her the way she though he'd loved her; the way she'd loved him. She'd been so happy by his side, and she'd believed that he had also been happy by her side. But she had to get rid of those thoughts. She shouldn't be having them, because all they did was keep her heart attached to him. Kept her wounds fresh for the next round of salt rubbed into them by time. So much time... More tears fell onto her cheeks. She was pathetic. No matter how many times she scolded herself, she'd not given him up. She hadn't forgotten, she would always be stuck in that time when they'd been happy. Her heart refused to let go, it always wanted to stay there, keeping the memories alive. Still loving him... Lucrezia felt tired of feeling sorry for herself. She needed something, someone, to resuscitate her. Her life had fallen apart since he'd left, but why didn't she move on? He obviously had, a long time ago too. She looked out the window only to discover that it was dark outside. "Must've been feeling sorry for myself longer than I thought," she muttered to herself. She wiped the tears from her face and went outside to look at the beautiful full moon. "Where'd you go?" she whispered. Noin walked back inside and turned the porch light on. She then proceded to turn all the lights inside the house off and headed to bed. Outside stood the unnoticed figure of a man. He'd been standing behind a tree for a few hours, hoping to catch a glimpse of her. He turned away and his platimun hair was highlighted by the moon's glow. The End... ? |
