"Innocent people will die because of your foolishness!"
She watched as he debated with the other aristocrats. Or, rather, argued.
She could tell he was getting angry, and her heart empathized with him.
"Colonel Treize! For your act of insubordination I could have you court marshalled! But out of the goodness of my heart I am going to give you ONE MORE chance."
Treize Khushrenada stood regally and glared at the older man. The handsome aristocrat said nothing, and silently sat down, fuming inside, but not about to let anyone see.
Lady Une saw though, and anger, her anger, joined his.

*********

He sat at his desk, head in his hands. It had been days since the argument with the leaders of the ROMEFELLAR FOUNDATION, but he was still feeling the effects of his anger. Treize was slow to anger. In fact, he prided himself at being even-tempered. However, death did not sit well with him.
A door opened and closed and soft footfalls were half way across the spacious room before Treize looked up wearily...and gasped.
Lady Une stood in front of him, her brown hair that turned nearly burnished gold when the light hit it, was not in its customary militaristic braids. In fact NOTHING about Lady Une was militaristic.
Her hair cascaded down her back, the front ends pulled upward and meeting in a braid that left the rest of her hair free. Tendrils were curled delicately about her oval face. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, her lips slightly redder, and....he managed to tear his eyes away from her face to travel down her body. He took in the midriff bearing while halter, the blue jeans that gently hugged her slim hips.
She noticed this and blushed.
"Noin and I are going out. Zechs is in town and she was nervous and asked me to come along, although I said I didn't have anyone to escort me and she suggested asking you." The last part came out in a near whisper and she blushed again.
Treize grinned. "Lady, looking like that I will be happy to follow you to my own execution."
Une blushed again and replied that she hoped that were never the case. Laughing, Treize stood up and kissed her hand before leaving her to stand in the middle of the spacious room, staring from her hand to where the wide oak door swung shut behind him, in wonder.

*********

Treize tried in vain to get the image of Une in civilian clothes out of his mind. He needed to concentrate on the matters at hand. Such as the way the ROMEFELLAR FOUNDATION was handling things with the colonies. But, it was hard. She had looked so shy. So nervous in simply asking him to accompany her and it had only served to endear her in his heart even more.
Although he had firmly told himself she was just a friend. He had only looked at her and was stunned to see her in civilian clothes. After all she was a beautiful woman and a man would have to be daft not to notice her. ::Especially like that:: He thought. He firmly suppressed his thoughts and hastily walked down the hall leading to the elegant conference room. It was time for round two.

*********

"You just do not seem to understand!" Treize said through clenched teeth.
"We understand enough Colonel Treize."
"Yes. We understand that your ideals are not getting us ahead in this war and that if we hear another one of your childish outburst Mr. Khushrenada, please know that you very likely can and will be court-marshalled."
Treize sniggered. "For what?" He said sneering. "Let me guess. Insubordination?"
"Well...yes."
"I see. And if you court-marshalled me, do you realize that you yourselves are in danger of being court-marshaled? After all, if insubordination is my crime, and I am easily punished for that, then it is a wonder why all of you have not been punished for, you guessed it, insubordination."
Treize sat back in satisfaction. That ought to keep the old coots from really taking any action. He could easily have them assassinated. He wondered if they even knew that. He smiled secretly to himself, feeling pretty pleased when a young woman with a slight British accent stood up from the table.
"I agree with Mr. Treize." She said with conviction. "His ideals are the only things that have kept YOU alive for this long. He is a military genius and you would all be daft to get him into any trouble!"
"Young lady," said an old, plump aristocrat, "I do not know which idiot invited such an opinionated woman but rest assured Lady, it will not happen again."
Treize watched in interest as her face flushed and her eyes sparkled dangerously.
"This opinionated woman," she spat, "has a name. I am Jayde Glazzard and I invited myself here on behalf of Treize Khushrenada and Lady Anne Une. So bug off you old stiff before you die of a heart attack. It's a wonder you haven't already!"
Treize bit his lip to keep from laughing hysterically. This one had spirit. Much like his Lady. He wondered if they knew each other. ::My Lady. I sound like I own her.:: He was frankly, slightly amused at the thought.
"I am afraid I must ask you to leave." The old man said, his teeth grinding with the effort of keeping his temper. The other aristocrats looked on in shocked silence, all but Treize who was fighting a losing battle to keep from laughing.
Jayde looked at them all for a moment, smiled slightly when her eyes rested on Treize, whom she saw was barely containing his mirth, and made a very dignified exit out the mahogany double doors.

***********

Jayde was still fuming when a breathless Treize Khushrenada caught up to her.
"Lady Jayde!" He called to get her attention.
The young woman turned around and blushed at the attentions of such a handsome man as Treize Khushrenada.
"Colonel Treize." She bowed her head, so as not to let the man see her blush.
He lifted her chin so he could see her face and he laughed when he saw how red her cheeks were. Needless to say, it only made her blush harder.
"Do I make you uncomfortable? A tough, sexy woman like you?"
She pulled away from him. By this time her face looked more like a tomato and she knew it.
He laughed and turned her around again. "Seriously Lady Jayde, I wanted to thank you for what you did in there."
"Oh...." Some of the blush left her face. She grinned. "Just call me Jayde Colonel Treize."
"All right Jayde. And you call me just Treize."
She stuck out her hand. "Deal." She said.
Treize grinned. He like her spirit. She definitely had to know Lady Une.
"Say," he asked, "Do you know a woman by the name of Lady Anne Une?"
"Yes, of course. She is one of my closest friends."
"I knew it."
She looked at him with a puzzled look on her face. "What do you mean Treize?"
"You both have the same spirit." He said with a smile.
She pondered that for a moment, then returning his smile said: "I take it you are escorting Anne tonight. Lucy and Zechs are coming as well."
His mind flashed to the way Lady Une had looked in her civilian clothes. "Of course." He replied. "And you are coming?"
"You bet." She said and turned to leave.
Treize walked the opposite way, his mind turning from the meeting to the prospect of seeing Une wearing clothes like that. His love for her overcame his lust, but sometimes it was damn hard.

*************

Jayde laughed telling Une of her encounter with Treize Khushrenada.  What she neglected to mention though, was the way Treize's eyes had glowed when she mentioned Lady Une. ::He has a thing for her.:: She thought bemused. The pretty woman grinned with mischief at the thought of the temperamental Une, with the passive Treize. She had to bite her lip to keep from laughing.
Une smiled as Jayde recounted what had happened in the conference room, but her mind was actually on Treize and the "double date" that was going on that night. She was very grateful for Jayde's company, as she was nervous. She had fallen in love with Treize since the day she had first met the charismatic man, and since then, it had been all she could do to keep her composure when in his presence. She shuddered involuntarily. Jayde noticed this and frowned.
"Une, are you alright?"
"I'm fine Jayde. I believe we have to get ready now?"
Jayde looked at her best friend for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Alright."
