The Golden Arrow
Yet another AU fic by Blue Rose

After breakfast, Lady Une wandered around the house. She explored several
of the rooms, finding out many things about the mysterious owner. One room
existed entirely of Duke Treize's military memorobilia. Guessing from the
various awards, medals, and badges, he had been quite a gallant hero in the
English army.
Another room kept a great picture gallery. Many portraits hung on the
wall, depicting long dead Khushrenadas. Some of them looked very very old,
and a couple of them looked fairly recent. She studied their faces. All of
them looked proud and dignified. Even the children sat stock still with
solemn faces.
One face caught her eye, a portrait of a young woman holding a small
red-haired child. Her eyes were very sad, though she appeared to be smiling
slightly. The girl had fine blonde hair and luminous gray eyes, but her
complexion was pale. She looked almost sickly, like she had been suffering
for a long time. The child held in the woman's arms reminded her of Duke
Treize. The same blue eyes and little self-assured smile peered back at her.
Lady Une wondered who they were and if they were still alive now.
After wandering about almost the entire house, Lady Une was tired. Duke
Treize had not come, and it was really starting to annoy her. Did he think he
could just leave her in this desolately lonely house forever? If he didn't
come back tomorrow, she would leave for London without him.

The next day, Treize did not come. Lady Une waited impatiently all day,
but to no avail. By the time darkness had fallen, she was fed up. She was
going to London, and she was going now.
Racing down the stairs, her unbound hair flying behind her, she ran. All the way to the carriage house. By the time she reached it, all the anger had
melted out of her, leaving her weak and vulnerable.
"My Lady, what's going on?" The voice of Duke Khushrenada came to her
like a light through darkness. He walked towards her, touching her gently on
the back.
She turned around angrily.
"Don't touch me!" She screamed. "You left me here on purpose. You don't
care what happens to me, do you? Otherwise you'd have taken me to London
after I got here! You arrogant fool, here I thought you cared about me, but
you're nothing more than a damn aristocrat!"
"Where do you think you're going?" Treize asked.
"London, of course. I'll find Duke Dermail if it's the last thing I do!"
And with that she got into his newly exited carriage and drove off.
