* Pairing: 13x11
*Genre: AU, adventure, romance
*Setting: 1880's  England (this isn't really meant to be historically

*This fic is dedicated to my friends Emily (Quatre is sexy!), Kit (I miss

*ahem* any ways, on with the story...

Treize Khushrenada's carriage jolted down the muddy road. Rain the night
before had made the English countryside a huge, wet meadow. Gray thunderheads
loomed ominously in the sky. He gazed out the window at the gloomy landscape.
He saw a young woman hobbling down the road.
"Stop." He ordered the coachman.
The carriage pulled up next to the woman. She lifted her thin velvet
hood, and Treize gasped in surprise. She was much younger than he originally
thought. Her brown hair was soaked from the night's heavy rain, and hung in
heavy wet tendrils around her face. She had cocoa brown eyes that held some
unspeakable sorrow.
"Would you like a ride?" He asked kindly.
She nodded, as he helped her into the carriage.
"What is your name?" He asked.
"My name is Lady Annya Christinya Une, daughter of Vinion Une."
"The German noble?"
"Yes."
"You must have come a long way, Lady Une. What has made you, daughter of
one of the wealthiest men in Germany, come this far?"
Tears welled up in her eyes.
"My father has been murdered." She said quietly.
"Murdered? What happened?" His blue eyes showed great concern.
"We were journeying to London to visit an associate of my father's, Duke
Dermail. On the way we were attacked by a band of outlaws. They killed my
father and the servants. I was the only one who got away."
"Why?" He asked, now interested in her fate.
"I don't know. Ever since, I've been walking to London to find Duke
Dermail. I'm sure he must know something about what happened."
He stared at her for a moment, she seemed so vulnerable and fragile. Like
a rose without it's thorns.
"Forgive me, I have not introduced myself. My name is Duke Treize
Khushrenada."
"Pleased to meet you." She said politely.
They rode in silence for a few minutes. Treize contemplated a question
that had been forming in his mind since he heard her tragic story.
"Lady Une?" He asked.
"Yes, Your Excellency?"
"I would be honored if you would come with me to my estate just outside
London. After you rest up, I will help you find Duke Dermail and investigate
the situation further."
"Well.. Since I'm already closer to London than Germany. I would be
pleased to accept your invitation, Duke Khushrenada."
"Good." He smiled.
They rode the rest of the way in silence.

To be continued...
