P.I.J.H.L. Team History

Past junior B teams of the B.C. Lower Mainland

The start of what is now the PIJHL actually goes back to 1965.  formed as the Lower Mainland Junior Hockey League consisting of  four teams. In 1966  the league was officially formed as the West Coast Junior Hockey League  with the addition of two more clubs.  In 1974 the league became "truly international" with the addition of the  Northwest Americans from Seattle being admitted to the league.

The WCJHL was up to 10 teams by the late 70's and competition was fierce for the Cyclone Taylor Trophy awarded to the Western Canada Junior B Champion.  In 1992-93 season the league changed its name to the Pacific International Junior Hockey league and continues to showcase exciting hockey in the Northwest.

Today the league consists of Seven teams in the lower mainland ( Delta Ice Hawks, Abbotsford Pilots, Ridge Meadows Flames, Queens Park Pirates, Port Coquitlam Buckeroos, Grandview Steelers and the Richmond Sockeyes) playing a forty two game schedule and playoffs.
