SCHOOL SNAKES DOWN UNDER
by Diana
I took my jungle carpet python to school a few days ago. It
was his second time there. In his cage he hides in a bird's nest.
Because he is in there 24/7, I get to handle him once a week or
less. I had some qualms about taking him to school, wondering if he would bite, but I
decided to go for it anyway. I fished him out of his nest [took 20 min!]
and put him in his travel cage. Then off to school!
I had him out for the first 45 min of the day, and I walked him
around the hallways. You know, most people didn't even know he was there! He
was coiled on my wrist, and he did the cutest thing! He look up, then moved
about ten inches of his upper body into space, and stared straight at the
ceiling, watching the "sky" move by. He doesn't do this at any other time
except a few times when I walked with him, so no it's not stargazing... I hope...
Anyway, when people saw him, there were two distinct
reactions: "Ohhh sweeet!" and "AAAUUUGH SHE'S GOT A SNAKE!!!! EWWW!"
Sadly, the latter reaction were taken up by more females, although a few
so-called "tough guys" looked at Raziel in horror hehe!

He got handled SO MUCH! Some people came up and made fast
movements near him, petting him while jerking back when Razzie's head
moved. I was a bit nervous, wondering if he'd bite, but he stayed cool,
and the students loved him! I showed him to most of my teachers, and all
except my band teacher loved him. My Biology teacher is not a snake fan,
but she allowed me to bring Raziel up to her. She ended up petting him,
which she said she wouldn't normally do, then Raziel decided she'd make a
good climbing apparatus! And my teacher didn't freak; she took it very
well. We need more open-minded people like her!
We have a greenhouse in our school, and it's always warm in there.
When the skies are clear, it's absolutely wonderful in there. I took
Raziel in the greenhouse, and he seemed to enjoy the warmth. I was
admiring his beautiful colors when I noticed his scales shone with
iridescence in the bright sun!
It's soooo beautiful! I spent 35 minutes in there, just sitting and
watching him move, looking at the bright colors. He is a very pretty
snake. Great colors.
What I'm most happy about is the fact that he got handled by a ton
of people, and tolerated everything very well, and he doesn't get handled
more than once a week or less! He's a good lil snake! I'll have him in
once more before the school year's out. Just a note, junle carpet pythons
don't take well to traveling like this, so be careful with your snake!

FUNNY PAGE
The Texan goes for a job interview in an office. The
interviewer starts with the basics. "Sir, can you tell us
your age, please?"
The Texan counts carefully on his fingers for half a minute
before replying "Ehhhh... 15!"
The interviewer tries another straightforward one to break the
ice. "And can you tell us your height, please?"
The young man stands up and produces a measuring tape from his
shorts. He then traps one end under his foot and extends the tape
to the top of his head. He checks the measurement and announces
"Five foot two!"
This isn't looking good, so the interviewer goes for the real
basics, something the interviewee won't have to count, measure or
lookup. "Just to confirm for our records, your name please?"
The Texan bobs his head from side to side for about ten
seconds, mouthing something silently to himself, before replying
"Billy Rae!"
The interviewer is completely baffled at this stage, so he asks
"What were you doing when I asked you your name?"
"Ohhhh, that!" replies the Texan," I was just running through
that song, 'Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you....'
(I JUST LOVE TEXANS!)
