Places I've been, and things I did:

Philmont Scout Ranch: Cimarron, New Mexico

Basically, we (myself and 11 other people) hiked with backpacks for 11 days, totaling a bit over 100 miles with elevation change.  We started at 6000 ft, and the highest point we got to was 12,441 ft.  One day we climbed 3000 ft in a bit less than 3 hrs.  Read more about Philmont here <unofficial Philmont Website>.  Here is an essay on my experiences of the first 5 or 6 days.  It was a blast, even though I got hurt.  Here is an essay discussing my feelings on Philmont. In 2003, I was able to go back to Philmont, where we proved that we were tough.  Read about it here.

So after June of 2001, when I went to Philmont, I wanted more.  About 2 weeks before Spring Break 2002, one of my scoutmasters had this idea about going and visiting Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  We made plans and in 2 weeks were able to have it all worked out.

Here's the essay about that.

We went back to Real de Catorce for a 5 day adventure, but on the way up, the suburban we were riding in flipped over.  I wrote two essays about that experience, one about the accident it self, and the other about the lessons we learned.

I have one more essay about Catorce II, as we came to call it, written in a style as if you were actually there.  I left it intentionally vague at places, because that is how I was feeling at the time.
