HIBIKI RYOGA

Ryoga, the eternally lost boy with fists of steel and a heart of glass! He earned this title for being, well, lost. If he wants to go somewhere, it'll take him a loooooooong time to get there. Take the meeting place for his fight with Ranma, for instance. In the manga, it was 500 yards from his house. In the anime, it was behind his house. Either way, it took him four days to get there (and Ranma wait for three days there, by the way). ShiroKuro

Ryoga's whole family has that problem...they always get lost! The only ones who don't get lost in the house is ShiroKuro, the family dog.

At rare times, Ryoga gets to stay in the right place for a long time. this is most frequently because Ranma is with him.

At the first few episodes since his appearance, Ryoga is usually seen trying to kill Ranma. He would do anything to have his revenge on Ranma. "Revenge?" you may ask.

When Ryoga was in Junior High School, there was Ranma who always "stole" his lunch. Actually, Ranma didn't steal it. He just got it instead of Ryoga. BUT that'll take too long to clarify, so, just look it up in the episode synopsis later. OK, back to the story. Since Ranma always got his lunch, Ryoga was finally fed up and challenged Ranma to a fight. As I said earlier, Ryoga has a terrible sense of direction, so when he got to the actual place for the fight, Ranma wasn't there anymore. He went to China. Ryoga thought that Ranma didn't show up at all. So he follows Ranma to China, and actually almost caught up with him. While he was standing on the cliff above the Jusenkyo springs (what the heck was he doing there on the cliff in the first place?), a girl caused him to fall...into the springs...

As Ryoga said, he has seen hell because of Ranma...that's why he's so angry at him. That lunch thing? That was nothing. And when he found out that it was actually Ranma that "pushed" him into the springs, he beacame even more furious!

So Ryoga hunts Ranma down again to Tokyo and fights him. The fight was cut short because of another accident... Meanwhile, Ryoga somehow gets lost again and vows to find the Tendo Dojo defeat Ranma. When he finally finds the Tendo dojo, Ranma and Ryoga fight(again), and the fight was cut short(again). This time, it was raining, and Ryoga loses his umbrella and disappears...Later, Ryoga falls in love with Tendo Akane, she gets a little black pig and calls it P-chan...

You can easily recognize Ryoga. When you see him. He wears a yellow and black headband around his head. He always carries his heavy umbrella, which, by the way is also his weapon. He also has these incredibly sharp canine teeth.

Aside from his umbrella, he also uses other weapons (of course! Being a martial artist, he has to!). His headband is not actually a headband. He can take a LOT of them in an I-have-no-idea manner. He also uses his belt like a blade.

Ryoga later becomes one of Ranma's "friends" like everybody else. When Ranma has a problem, at very rare times, he helps him. If he has a problem (like how to get home), he usually consults Ranma, who sometimes also helps him. But when it comes to rescuing Akane or something like that, Ranma and Ryoga usually compete for the position and at the same time help each other to save her.

Ryoga is also such a blundering idiot that he believes anything anybody says. Ranma often uses this weakness for his own purpose.

What I can say about Ryoga is that if only he wasn't eternally lost or believes anyhting anybody says, he's really a nice guy. He's also very strong. Actually, I think he's almost as strong as Ranma and can beat him if only he'd use his head. But let's face it, Ryoga isn't that fast when fighting or when it comes to thinking, so I can only sigh and say, "Poor guy!" and mean it.

Notes about the name
Hibiki means "sound; noise."
Ryoga means "good fangs."

Techniques Used:

Shishi houkou-dan "lion roar shot"
A technique of projecting one's "ki" (spirit) at someone, which Ryoga learns from a scroll he got from a civil engineer, who used the technique for excavation. Appearance: Nettouhen episode 123. Volume 20 part 1.
