Moves in the Field and Other Testing

When you first start skating, you test Basic and Freestyle badges using the USFSA book. The testing sessions are usually once a month.

Later, you will start doing moves-in-the-field and freeskate testing. The levels are as follows: pre-preliminary, preliminary, pre-juvenile, juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, and senior.

After working on a test to the point that your coach thinks you're ready to test it, you sign up for the next testing session. On the day of the testing session, 1 judge (or 3 if you're testing pre-juvenile or above) will watch you skate out the test. They will have a sheet where they will write notes about each move you do. They will also give you a score for each move. After you have completed the test, they will add up your scores to make a final score. Your final score must be at or above the required point total to pass. If it's not, you will have to retake the test at another date. Sometimes, you might have to reskate a move.

You can only test a freeskate test after you have passed the moves-in-the-field test for that level.

Testing sessions are tense. So bring a teddy bear to calm you down. =] You might pass, or you might fail. Muhahahahahahah. OK.
