Getting Started

First, you will need skates. Duh! You can rent them, but they're usually kinda crappy so you should buy some. When you first start skating, they won't be that expensive. As you advance, you will need to start buying more expensive skates with more supportive boots with better quality blades.

Second, you will need warm clothes unless you want to wear a skating skirt, in which case, you will need tights. You will probably want some gloves to keep your hands warm while you skate. A sweatshirt is also a good idea. You can take it off if you get warm.

Third, you will probably need a bottle of water in case you get thirsty. It might also be a good idea to have some Kleenexes handy, as a lot of people get runny noses while they skate (especially me!)

Finally, you will need to sign up for some lessons. The best way to go is to take group lessons for about a year, then start taking private lessons. You can still keep taking group lessons as well.
