In
gratitude, I wrote a letter to Ron
Link and his Angels-In-Training at surgicaleyes.com
for their eye-opening work, generosity, and heartfelt sharing.
Inspired, I
pledged to help their reach to the public. Copies
of THE LASIK LETTER are
given to our patients to be reviewed at home at their
leisure.
THE LASIK
LETTER is an eye-opener
for our patients. Until we started giving out an extra copy ("One
for you to keep as your reference; the other to give away or make
copies"), we'd get phone calls the next day for extra copies.
Our patients
are wasting no time in passing on valuable information to loved ones,
susceptible to the LASIK hype.
Once over
the shock of being made fully aware, our patients get fired
up. They initiate their own grassroots efforts to help others by photocopying
THE LASIK LETTER,
mailing it to family and
friends, and handing it out at work.
All out of
human caring!

We are each of us angels with but one wing.
And we can only fly embracing each other."
~ Luciano de Crescenzo
You see,
none of us
make the $100,000
A DAY that the busiest surgeons make, hands over fist, as reported
by CBS News. We do not have the
$1,000,000s to counter the misleading million-dollar
ads and infomercials, heavy on hype
and light on revealing risks, complications, and long-term effects.
Let's get real. We're a McDonald's generation. We're spoiled. We like
things fast, quick, and easy. But how wholesome are fast
foods for us in the long run? Not very. But at least we know that.
Our patients
feel as we do. We're not going to help everybody, but each of us can help
SOMEbody become aware and think twice. One
person at a time.
We liken
ourselves to modern-day Davids slaying a Goliath. And who is
Goliath? The pain created by the media
hype and market frenzy and those who do not have the patients' best
interests in mind.
Recently,
several patients independently suggested posting THE LASIK LETTER
online, even volunteering to do it for us. "It'll make it
easier to pass on and
we can share it with the
online community."
Why didn't we think of that!
Fueled by
our patients' proactive caring, the sharing of
THE LASIK LETTER is definitely
snowballing!
THE LASIK
LETTER is presented on the next page,
edited from its hastily written original and enhanced with pertinent, helpful links.
But
before you hurry there, here's a
link to return to as you open your eyes to some harsh LASIK realities.
Sometimes, you just have to smile through the tears, assured that
the human spirit is strong and LASIK cannot vaporize wit.
And here it
is:
THE
LASIK LETTER

This is a
grassroots effort that's
worth getting involved with,
as it's about sight.
For Heaven's
Sake.
