D’Orsay Museum

On Wednesday morning we had our first taste of Paris’ many museums. And what a museum – the d’Orsay. It was the highlight of my trip.

From 1900 to 1939, the building was used as a train station. Its central hall is several stories high with a glass ceiling. Majestic, but pales compared to the stunning works displayed on the third floor.

That floor holds the outstanding paintings of the great Impressionists and post-Impressionists: Renoir, Monet, Cezanne, van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Manet and Degas. Can you imagine? It was so fabulous I got misty-eyed several times. Oh, so beautiful!

One of my favorites was Renoir. Doreen says his paintings are too pretty. I guess I have a lot more to learn about art.
