Sunset

A pale breeze washed across the land, spreading the cool scent of cherry blossoms and summer grass. The sun was dipping below the horizon in the distance, washing the green countryside with the colors of the deepest crimson and lightest pink. Dusk had not yet traveled across the land, and the sunsets glowing light was reminisce of a faerie's twinkling fire.

Two figure's lay on a hill, gazing up at the clouds passing overhead, fluffy mouthfuls of brightly hued cotton candy, food for the angels in the sky. Behind them grew a twisted and bent apple tree, leaves shadowing over them, protecting the two children from any nightly demons that might come upon them in their wanderings.

The girl, a mite tinier than the flame headed boy, twisted to look at her friend, disheveled mousy brown hair falling in her face, blocking silver eyes from view as she giggled, tossing the hair back over her shoulder with a twist of her head. The boy laughed, looking at her, picking a few stray blades of grass from her hair with a giggling smile burning in his dark blue eyes.

"Do you ever wonder?" She asked, her voice chiming clearly, like a silver bell in a snowstorm. He lay back down, hands folded under his head, and sighed.

"All the time. Mainly about what's in Twinkie's, but yeah, I wonder." The boy said, his voice dazed, as if he was talking more to the blue smoked sky above him than the girl laying next to him. She sighed, laying back down, hands folding under her own lengthy hair.

"That's not what I meant, and you know it. Do you ever wonder...... why?" She asked, tears soaking her eyes as she refused to let them dribble down her pale cheeks. The boy sighed once more, his voice catching in his throat for a moment as he bit his lip.
