| Merry-Beth Noble - "Artist Unknown" This picture is a bit blurry. It is various pictures of people with tattoos. What I got from the artwork was that the artist thinks tattoos are a form of marking the body, and thinks that this is somewhat like the criminal marking the books. Art is wonderful. The thoughts that it provokes can cause controversy, just like books. |

| Deanne Velasco - "The Truth Shall Set You Free" I like this piece for how a book called "Hidden From History" has a lock and chain around it. When someone speaks their own truth, they no longer feel like they must hide. |

| Jack Davis - "Men with the Pink Triangle" This is a book on homosexuality in Nazi Germany. The artist noticed when the library sent him the book that the cut pieces and slash marks were all in triangle shapes. He sewed them all back with pink thread. The book is in the middle of each picture. The picture on the left shows the cover. The picture on the right show pages of the book. Note the pink triangle at the top of the page. There are other works of art nearby. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| cj grossman - "I'll Vandalize My Own Books, Thank You" I could not take this picture, as the artwork was deep in a shadowed display case. The artist's point was that the criminal didn't own them, and he hates the books, so, of course, he had no right to destroy them. But when the artist received the book, the artist felt no right to destroy it further, but realized they could - in this case - should, for art. Laura Laura - The artist's artwork was also in a dark display case, but I found her story interesting. The artist was happy to be part of this exhibit because earlier in her career working in libraries, there was a retired teacher who would intentionally censor books, using White Out to cover offending passages and painting underwear on children's characters in picture books. The library said they would just "wait it out," because this patron was a donor to the library. Which is ridiculous...Nothing should be done, especially putting up with censorship, in the name of money. |

| Kathy Sheehan - "Hope is the Thing with Feathers" This book was a originally a volume of studies of suicide by gay teens. The artist wanted to express hope and freedom. There are words from the book within the gazebo shaped building in the middle. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
