                                                                     18-7-97

Hello Folks!
This is a standard Smartcard Reader/Writer interface which will read
any ISO7816 type card and write to it - presuming one has the correct info and
utility.
I have used a standard RS 90deg. DB9 female connector for the actual
connection on the pcb so it is much easier to connect-disconnect the
progger to your serial port on a pc or laptop. To connect it you can use any
serial extension 9pin cable like mouse extender ones; you don't have to
short pins 4-6-8 (dtr, dsr, cts) of the serial 'cause it's already done on
the actual pcb where the serial connector is soldered, giving you compatibility
with db9-to-db25 adapters for universal connections. You could actually
connect it DIRECTLY to your serial port if you have space anyway.
Next I have added a 7805 just in case you don't have a stable 5V
power supply and don't want to fry anything:) I have written on the pcb the
voltages so one can't make mistakes in inserting the 7805.
To complete the pcb, I have placed a normal pcb 2.1mm power jack
connector (RS N.486-662) so you can also connect the device to a normal
12-18V output having a 7805 installed. It is also handier again for connecting
-disconnecting it very quickly and painlessly to other pcs/laptops.
Having moved the serial connections, there is a "jump" to be
placed, which can be seen close to the max232/202 along the gnd line going
towards the smartcard connector. It is quite easily localised because it
jumps the three lines (rx,tx,rts) going towards the max232/202.
One last thing, I have added the "connections" for the standard RS
smartcard connector (RS N.453-785) so one doesn't have to cut or trim
anything, just drill!
The image is a standard one bitplane tiff done in photoshop.
To print it one can also use Coreldraw! to be sure of the proportions by
just importing and printing it directly.
