| Superman: Ultimate Flight. Another B & M masterpiece. This ride opened in New Jersey's own Great Avdentures on a balmy Friday April 17th 2003. A cool 2 weeks after the park opened. Was it worth the wait? Hell yeah!! Although SFGA's S:UF is the exact same track design + layout as the S:UF in Six Flags Over Georgia (sans longer station platform), we lucked out by having a modified restraints. The horse collar restraint system can cater to any and all body types. I have never ridden a coaster that was so comfortable in regards to the restraints. There is so much mobility. Upon sitting, it seems dangerous that part of the OSHC is spring loaded, and once the train locks into the flying position, your back doesn't touch the seat. I guess its intentional because when the trains flys through the heart loop, the positive g's at the bottom of the loop would probably cause the OSHC to click tighter, therefore making it uncomfortable for the rest of the ride. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Superman: Ultimate Flight is a great ride. All 48 seconds of it. Well, the ride isn't that short. But it might as well be. The highlight of the ride is the "Heart Loop." The ride is about 105 feet tall, and reaches speeds of about 50mph. It turns you up and over twice, and goes into a nice figure 8 pattern over the queue. But thats it!!. Once train fly's through the loop, the ride is pretty much over. And being that this ride is in the parking lot, there isn't much to look at either. The ride has some nice theming, especially along the queue. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This Ride gets a few points for being: 1. Smooth, 2. A bit exciting and 3. Accomodating. Thats it. SFGA's S:UF has a short station. Only two trains are on the track. Not only that, S:UF is prone to break downs. Imagine waiting in line for 2 hours to ride a ride that is no longer than a minute? Now you see my frustration with the ride. Its a beautiful ride, don't get me wrong, but once the thrill of looking face down while going up that chain lift subsides, the ride is just about over. The best negative g part of the ride is right after the first drop. The train climbs up, about 80 feet, and over the heart loop. This is where the train slows to a crawl. And suddenly, bang, the train pulls you through the loop. OMG that feels so amazing!! An experience that can only be felt in the back row. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Impressions: S:UF is a great ride. Don't get me wrong. It was my first flying coaster. I didn't write this review until after riding it many times over. I came to the conclusion that it has some real nice elements to it. The initial threat of hanging on your back as you climb a 100+ foot chain lift, just to fly down the first drop, and coming withing 3 feet of the ground is such a great feeling. Do you feel a "Flying" sensation as you are on the ride? YES. The flying figure 8 pattern that follows the heart loop is amazing, especially since the train flys directly above the queue. I love the positive g at the base of the heart loop (the pressure almost caused me to choke once.) The back row is definatelly where you want to be while riding this coaster. Of course, the front row would allow you to see everything, but being built in a parking lot, there isn't alot to see. This ride gets an 8 out of 10. This ride gained a few points for its track over track design, being built over the queue, and the comfy OSHC. |
