Guardians of Wily Tower: Busterrod G, Megawater S, Hyperstorm H by Pickleloaf
I find it surprising that many people who are familiar with both the Wily Tower robots (from Mega Man: The Wily Wars) and Monkey Magic do not notice any relationship.
[Disclaimer: the following is all off the top of my head] Monkey Magic is an ancient Chinese story about a monkey warrior named ‘Monkey Magic’ (or more likely, just ‘Monkey’). Somehow, Monkey meets ‘Piggy’ (a pig warrior) and ‘Sandy’ (some other warrior). Then they have to escort this female Buddhist person (whose name I’ve forgotten) to a holy Buddhist place in India. Er… maybe she had holy scrolls or something, but I doubt it. This story has appeared as books (duh), cartoons, games, TV series, etc. Busterrod G = Monkey Megawater S = Sandy Hyperstorm H = Piggy / Pigsy Piggy is a (not surprisingly) fat warrior with pig’s skin, a pig’s head and a spiky rake as a weapon. Sandy looks pretty much human to me, and armed with a big long axe, except that the axe blade faces directly away from the shaft, giving the weapon the appearance of a spade. Monkey looks like a humanoid monkey, like Busterrod G. He also wears a circlet of the same brand as Busterrod G’s. His weapon is a stick, or rod, called (I think) Jin Gu Bang (as far as I know, pronounced ‘Jing Goo Bung’). Monkey has good agility and various magical powers, such as the ability to disguise himself as someone else, or to summon a cloud, which he can ride through the sky. Monkey was born from an egg. Since he’s so good, he quickly became the king of monkeys. Once, I think he stole (or tried to steal) peaches from heaven. This may have occurred before or after his trip to the Sea King. In this adventure, Monkey went to the bottom of the ocean. I forgot what happens, but there’s this GIGANTIC rod, stuck into the sea bed, rather like Excalibur. Many have tried to pull it out, without success. Somehow, Monkey pulls out the rod, and it shrinks (a hundred-fold, I believe) down to his size (unless he shrank it first, then pulled it out). Even though now it’s a normal-sized rod, it still weighs as much as a giant rod, which means it hurts quite a bit if you get hit by it. Among the rod’s powers is its ability to extend (like Busterrod G’s rod) and possibly contract for easy storage. And that, my friend, is how Monkey got his rod. [Keep in mind that this is all off the top of my head and could be wrong]
