MEGA MAN 5 (NES)

Unless otherwise stated, you can only have up to 1 firing of Mega Man’s weapons and items on the screen at once.

Weapons

Water Wave: – Wave Man

Fires a wave of water along the ground. The wave is made up of 3 columns of water and can only be fired when Mega Man is standing on the ground. The wave can flow off the edge of a platform like a waterfall and continue on if it hits the ground again. It can also wash away energy-based enemy shots.

Gyro Attack: – Gyro Man

Fires a small helicopter blade. While the blade is in flight, you can make it turn and travel either up or down by pressing the appropriate directional arrow, but only once for each blade.

Crystal Eye: – Crystal Man

Fires a crystal ball. If it hits a map object (eg, a wall), it will shatter into 3 smaller balls that travel in 3 directions (one straight back, one at a 45° elevation, one at a 45° depression). These smaller balls travel in straight lines and reflect off map terrain. They disappear after 3 seconds.

Napalm Bomb: – Napalm Man

Mega Man drops a bouncy cylindrical Napalm Bomb that explodes after 3 seconds. If it hits an enemy first, it does damage instantly but does not explode. However, it will explode if it hits an invulnerable enemy. You can have up to 3 on the screen at once.

Power Stone: – Stone Man

Three rocks appear and spiral out from Mega Man. The spiral in an anti-clockwise direction and start off small but quickly grow to full size. You can only have 1 firing on the screen at once.

Gravity Hold: – Gravity Man

Causes the screen to flash white, briefly reversing gravity for all enemies. This also effects material enemy shots. In terms of game mechanics, this weapon deals the equivalent of one normal Mega Buster shot to all enemies on the screen. Those that are destroyed ‘fall’ up to the top of the screen instead of exploding.

Charge Kick: – Charge Man

One of Mega Man’s more interesting weapons. While equipped with the Charge Kick, Mega Man cannot fire at all. If he slides, his feet will be surrounded by an energy wave that damages enemies. Mega Man is invulnerable while performing the Charge Kick (but try not to finish a kick while occupying the same space as an enemy or you’ll still get damaged).

Star Crash: – Star Man

Three stars orbit Mega Man, forming a protective shield. Press Fire to fire the shield straight forwards in the direction that Mega Man is facing. The shield will disappear if it is hit by anything, or if Mega Man enters a new screen. However, it can block energy-based enemy shots. This weapon only uses energy when Mega Man loses the shield – 3 units if it is destroyed by a hit, 1 if it is fired off, 0 if it is lost when Mega Man enters a new screen. (This shield weapon is slightly different from the others because the stars travel in a clockwise direction.)

Items

Unlike the previous Mega Man games, whenever Rush is called for, he will stay until used.

Rush Coil:

Mega Man starts off with this item. If Mega Man jumps on the back of Rush, Rush will propel himself and Mega Man upwards with a spring-loaded mechanism. Rush will teleport away after one jump. This item only uses energy when the jump is used.

Due to a bug of sorts, Rush will also jump if Mega Man jumps while he is standing on the ground that Rush is standing on. Since Mega Man won’t be on Rush’s back, the jump will be wasted.

Rush Jet: – Gyro Man

Rush forms a jetboard that Mega Man can stand on. Once Mega Man steps on to the jetboard, it will start to move forwards. While riding the jetboard, Mega Man can make slight adjustments to its height by pressing the Up and Down arrows. However, he cannot move left or right while standing jetboard. Rush Jet only uses energy when it is moving.

Super Arrow: – Star Man

Mega Man shoots an arrow. This can cause damage, but Mega Man can also ride on it. When fired there is a brief delay before the arrow starts moving – enough time for Mega Man to hop on. If the arrow hits a wall, it will stick to it and remain there for 3 seconds.
