God... You Goofed

The Bible teaches that God created a perfect world, and man screwed it up. Baloney! Are we to believe a "newborn," not yet dry behind the ears, freshly created being was able to thwart the designs of an omnipotent God? Even assuming such were true, where does the blame really lie--in two mortal, newly formed, "babes in the woods," (pardon my pun) with no experiences or pass history from which to draw? Two innocents over-whelmed with new, untried emotions tossed into an inconceivable situation--or an all powerful, all knowing, creator? And speaking of all knowing, wouldn't that necessitate full knowledge of their reactions? Wouldn't He, in fact, know they would fail? And isn't that something akin to playing with a stacked deck?

It's my contention that God knew exactly what would happen and is therefore entirely responsible for whatever occurs in this world. Whether unintentionally, or by design, God is responsible for your problems. From the starving in Africa, Asia, Europe, and even here in the good ole USA; to the kid with a kite hung in a power line, thank God.

I can't help but wonder why. Why would a creator God design and create such a mess? For instance, stop and ask yourself, why create such a beautiful and wonderful world and make it virtually impossible for the average person to see it? Oh, sure, I know you can blame it on man's greed, his desire to own and acquire. Or, why so much disease and suffering? And what of sex? Why are people attracted to young, good-looking, persons of the opposite sex (in most cases) when the majority of people are old and ugly? Why do old men lust after young girls and visa versa? As they age, why aren't they attracted to those of their own age? Why is appearance so important in a sexual relation? Why couldn't an attraction be based on smell or a mysterious psychic tuning? Why make man polygamous and insist on monogamous relations? Why would a just and loving god create so much misery? And as creator He must, directly or indirectly, be held responsible.

Really! What's wrong with making people happy by giving them what they want? Oh! You say, they must have trials and tests to build character. If everyone had what he wanted, why would he need character? So he might obtain heaven, you say. Why should he have to obtain it? Why not just make this world heaven? Because God is looking for a few good men (and women--forgive me ladies). Why does He have to look for them when He can make them anyway He likes?

Let me ask you something? If you had all power--if you were God, if you could recreate the world; couldn’t you do a better job? Stop and think about it. If you could do away with all diseases and suffering, stop crime, eliminate greed and hunger, answer all the problems of the world, couldn’t you make a better place? Oh, I know, someone is thinking of how boring it would be, but with all power I’m sure you could think of something more reasonable than a good ole war or working forty-five years before retiring into poverty.

Face it, God goofed! Perhaps it's because he never experienced the human emotions we must deal with; hunger, pain, lust, death of a loved one--What? He gave His only begotten son? Who told you that? Oh, the same peoples who made up the New Testament. The ones who spread the Good News of eternal life by threatening damnation while confiscating the peasants' food and property in the name of the Church. The same people who razed villages and slaughtered everyone they saw fit to label heretics. The ones who gave us the word--the word inquisition. Such an illustrious history for such a holy purpose. By their fruits ye shall know them.

Seriously, can we blame all this on God? When I say, "God goofed," does that simple finger pointing explain our woes? Of course not. We must pull our heads out of the ether of religion and dare look beyond the myths and folk-tales of frightened, superstitious, men struggling to explain the unknown. If we can see beyond the ingrained, sanctimonious, teachings of a deceived world; if we can shrug aside the centuries of fear associated with questioning Biblical teachings and honestly question the existence of God--then perhaps we can find God--not the fictitious image fabricated hundreds of years ago.

When we can do that, then we can place the blame for the evils of this world on our generation and those of our fathers and their fathers--not two poor ignorant souls in a far away mythical garden.
