Toshiba PDA e740
May/June 2004: Bought a Toshiba e740 PDA from Digital Gadgets Sdn Bhd in G7, Ground Floor, Low Yat Plaza for RM999.00 (cash).

12-06-2004 Sent back for repair because:
1.) Battery drains fast
- Battery always drains till zero at end of day (Must charge everyday!)
- Shop claims PDA battery should normally last 2-3 days when NOT USED (ie.Wi-Fi off, screen brightness lowest, hardly switched on)
- Even if we leave the e740 off for whole day, at end of day it is still near zero % power!
2.) Cannot switch off PDA
- Everytime switch button is pressed to turn it off, after a second it turns on back again by iteslf. That means as good as cannot switch of normally (on top of fast-draining battery), so no choice but to press "Unlock battery" switch  (which by the way will erase whatever is stored on the PDA.
- Better (essential!) to get memory card (SD or CF) to prevent data loss.

26-08-2004: Called Digital Gadgets and according to Mr. Singh, they sent to Toshiba Malaysia on time but Toshiba Malaysia is waiting for batteries to be shipped from Japan (since all parts are made in Japan).
26-08-2004: Called Teledynamics Sdn Bhd (03-55687788) which is the service center for Toshiba PDA's, notebooks, PCs etc. Person in charge told me slightly DIFFERENT story:
"Cannot switch off" problem is due to motherboard woh, because it works fine (ie.can switch off properly) when power jack is plugged in (ie.is connected to charge I guess). When power jack is not plugged in, then cannot switch it off (will turn itself on after 1 second). He claimed the motherboard should have arrived already but probably stuck at customs/port somewhere.
He was surprised to hear about the "draining battery" problem as it wasn't initially reported by "Digital Gadgets". Anyway, he said it shouldn't drain within one day although it's not being used! Normally if it is used extensively during the day (or night!), then it maybe drained by end of day. But in this case we didn't use it, just leave it OFF on the table can get drained to near 0% also....tsk tsk.
I used to always have a very good impression of Toshiba, thinking their high price is due to their reliabiliy...guess there's always something to prove me wrong...
So: never trust any brand/company that is totally good. Always high price doesn't mean always high quality... In this case I'm wondering whether we got cheated by the shop which already suspected something wrong with the PDA perhaps and tried to get rid of it (ie.push the problems to customer).

07-09-2004: And the saga continues...just called Mr. Chiang from Teledynamics (the guys who fix Toshiba PDA's) and was told the motherboard is still "stuck" (it "arrived" in the country but not in their store...go figure). When asking whether can refund the unit, was told if it's already past one month cannot refund (I wonder where this is stated!), furthermore this unit cannot be replaced even if it was still within a month of purchase 'cos it's OBSOLETE!!! Out of production already! Toshiba upgrades their units every four months apparently. And when asked whether can change to a similar unit, I was told they don't do that. So, either way I'm on the lower Toshiba food chain (with Toshiba being on top and Digital Gadgets 2nd). But who paid for it and suffers?... (answer to be announced in next blog...sorry, no prize for guessing) ... and the possibility of Consumer Claims Tribunal looms ever closer...
