Nelson Ojeda Valdes
Pianist Nelson Ojeda Valdes is originally from Los Angeles California where he began his musical studies at the age of eight under the tutelage of his mother. He has been a guest soloist with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the Southeast Symphony, California State University Fullerton Wind Ensemble in a tour of Japan and Lloyd Rodgers' Diverse Instrument Ensemble. He has been the winner of many competitions such as Music Associates Awards Competition (Grand Prize Winner), Brentwood/Westwood Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.

Mr. Ojeda's solo recitals include Steinway Hall in Los Angeles, Fundacion Juan March and El Ateneo in Madrid (Spain), the concert series at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City and the concert series of several colleges, universities and churches throughout the US. He has been a repeated guest artist at David Dubal's "World of Piano" at the Juilliard School in New York City and at Lisa Yui's "Lives of the Piano" at the Manhattan School of Music. He has also been a festival artist at the "International Keyboard Institute and Festival" at Mannes College of Music and has performed at several Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) Conventions.

Mr. Ojeda's concert career is highlighted by his interpretation of XXth and XXIst Century composers. He has been a guest artist with Subito Performance Ensemble, premiered works at Voces Noves New Music Festival and performed a lecture recital on George Crumb's Makrokosmos Vol. I in Los Angeles, New York and Madrid

Nelson also has a special interest in chamber music. He has performed piano quintets by Brahms, Turina and Piazzola with Cuarteto Assai. He performed Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time at the MTAC Convention in Los Angeles, an all Schubert program at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and a recital of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert at the Classical Music Festival at the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt (Austria). With his duo partner, Hyangmee Kim, he has performed at Yon-sei University in Seoul (Korea), University of North Texas and the Centennial MTAC Convention in San Francisco.

Recordings include Summerland with the Paul Bailey Ensemble and Oiseaux Tristes by Ravel for a short animation film by Jin Lee. Radio includes a performance in the series ORCAM (Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid) of Brahms Quintet in F Minor Opus 34 with Cuarteto Assai on Radio Nacional de Espana and an interview with Kathleen Hershner with recorded excerpts of live performances on Vaughan Radio. His concert of American composers with flutist Patricia Surman and soprano Lynette Carveth at Palacio Laredo in Alcala de Henares (Spain) appeared on Solidaria TV along with a pre-concert interview.

Nelson Ojeda Valdes holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees from California State University Fullerton and a Professional Studies Diploma from the Manhattan School of Music. His primary teachers have been Earle Voorhies, Susan Svrcek and Constance Keene. He has been on the piano faculty at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California and Harbor Conservatory in New York City.
