| MEET MS. LIZ DEAL, PIANO INSTRUCTOR My name is Liz Deal and I teach piano in the Julington Creek area of St. Johns County, Florida. I have been playing piano for almost 40 years. I'm clasically trained, but began playing jazz in high school and college. I currently enjoy playing in a praise and worship band called "Eternal". In my lessons I teach the basics of music in fun, inspiring ways. In addition to our traditional time at the piano, lessons include creating at the keyboard and learning music theory and composition through child-friendly computer programs. My goal is for your child to love music because they are able to understand it, read it, play it, and share it with others. I feel strongly that music is a gift, and it needs to be shared with others. This is why I include community service in my curriculum. Each semester we present a recital for friends and family and enjoy an opportunity to play for others who are less fortunate. My dream is that each of my students will continue to play for a lifetime, bringing peace and joy into their lives. |
| SO YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT STARTING PIANO LESSONS? NOW WHAT? If you are thinking about learning the piano, the first question is.... do you have a piano at home? If you have one, that's great, if not, consider a nice quality keyboard for starting out. Next you need to find a teacher. You need to find someone close by, one who can fit you in their schedule. The local piano stores and school music teachers are usually a good source for recommendations. Most teachers have waiting lists, so don't expect to start right away. It's a good idea to have an interview with the teacher before you begin so that you can be sure that you and the teacher are a good match. The next question is... do you have time to practice? In order to be successful, most students practice about 100 minutes a week... that is about 15 minutes every day. If you are not faithful with your practice routine, you will not make progress and will get discouraged. My piano lessons run 45 minutes, once a week. 30 minutes are spent on the piano/keyboard and another 15 minutes on the computer. I follow the St. Johns County School District schedule for holidays and breaks. I teach on school days between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm. A few mornings a week I teach homeschool students and adults. So if you'd like to learn to play along with your child, you can! Please contact Miss Liz for an interview to see the studio and receive more information. BACK TO HOME PAGE |
