Pi Lambda Zeta
Chapter History

The light of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. shined upon New Haven, Lichtfield, and Fairfield counties on May 17, 1996. Pi Lambda Zeta is currently the only active graduate chapter in the Southern Connecticut region. It is within the Atlantic region of the Sorority.

Pi Lambda Zeta was founded by six innovative, professional women: Sorors Gwendolyn Busch, Nushae Butcher*, Cynthia Georges*, Tasha Hunt*, Donna Mannes, and Alvena Watkins*.

Our ideals are Community Service, Finer Womanhood, Scholarship and Sisterly Love. The Chapter, as well as the Sorority, has teamed up with various organizations in the community to foster our four prinicples. Our most recent involvement in the community was with the March of Dimes, Walk America. Pi Lambda Zeta also sponsors an undergraduate chapter, Psi Omicron, located on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.

On April 25, 1994 the light of Zeta shined upon the campus of SCSU. Psi Omicron is the only undergraduate chapter in New Haven; however, it is currently inactive. The chapter was founded by five enthusiastic young ladies: Nushae Butcher, Cynthia Georges, Tasha Hunt, and Alvena Watkins. Psi Omicron established the first and only Black Greek Letter Organization on the campus of SCSU, and it is the third undergraduate chapter in Connecticut.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list, obtain more information about the graduate chapter, or join either chapter please do one of the following: e-mail us or contact us via mail at P.O. Box 8334 New Haven, CT 06530.
