The SKIN-NY on UV TANNING Here's a brief explanation of how tanning works: Tanning is the body's natural defense against UV rays. The clear pigment in our skin called MELANIN turns BROWN when UV-A light is present. The problem is that our body doesn't store melanin... it's only made when we are axposed to the UV-B ray. The UV-B ray is also the REDDENING ray. We need a VERY samll amount of UV-B to start our melanin. The sun emits mostly UNCONTROLLED UB-B! Conventional 20-30 minute sun units sill have about 10% UV-B! Our 10 minute UV-A system has only about 3% UV-B.
So... If we have no melanin stored to brown and protect us AND we are exposed to too much UV-B too quickly... WE BURN or OVEREXPOSE. That's why you are more likely to burn on your first time or two tanning inside & especially outside. Believe it or not, many people want to go for the full session their 1st time with NO SKIN CARE product whatsoever! They end up with Pink or Red skin that is burned or will wash right down the shower drain. You see, a burn signals your skin to replace itself at a VERY accelerated rate... it's injured! Not only do you have undesirable skin color, you won't be able to keep your tan later on because your skin is exfoliating to heal itself. Most people repeatedly burn and only use skincare if it's burned or painful!
The KEY is this:
1. Use equipment with mostly UV-A BRONZING, and just enough UV-B to keep your body producing melanin.
2. Use controlled Exposure times customized to your skin. You CAN'T RUSH a Beautiful Tan (If you need a TAN NOW... Try our SUNLESS!)
3. When "ramping up" to achieve your desired color or maintaining color with UV systems you MUST care for and protect your skin with a product designed specifically for indoor tanning. You'll have beautiful, hydrated skin, and stunning color that develops faster & lasts way longer!
UV-A TANNING BEDS Now that you know how the UV tanning process works it's time to choose a PLAN to develop & maintain your target color. Before you begin we will match your skin type and give you a skin care consulation. These steps will determine your exposure schedule and allow us to prescribe a skincare product that will get you to your TAN FAST!
We will probably suggest that you begin with a few minutes in one of our 10 minute UV-A beds. It's normal to see little or no color after your 1st visit. Your color will develop more quickly over the next few visits and usually 10 hours or so after your session.
STARSHIP VHR 200 12,500 WATTS OF BRONZING POWER If you want a Deep Dark Gentle tan make the STARSHIP part of your prgram. This stand up 9 minute unit is able to Brown you faster, once you have a beginning tan. Take the Starship every 3rd visit and see STUNNING color develop! Starship Minutes are sold seperately or you may use minutes from your UV Bed Plan and pay a small upgrade. It's like "bumping up" to First Class!
TANNING PLANS We charge per minute for UV TANNING so you never pay for unused parts of sessions! Minutes are good for 1 Year.
