eddy  current   The  varying electromagnetic  field produced by the ac current induces  current in the core of transformer. This current, known as eddy  current, causes  heating of the core and results in energy loss.  The  loss is minimized by laminating the transformer core and  choosing a high resistivity material (like alloy of iron and 4% silicon) so as to reduce the induced current.
