bremsstrahlung The process of energy loss by a highly energetic electron when it is rapidly decelerating in the electric field of an atomic nucleus. During this process high energy photons (X-rays or g -rays) are produced. For energies exceeding 150 MeV, this process is responsible for most of the energy loss of an electron. The continuous part of the X-ray is produced by this process.
