Auger effect An atom with missing inner electron will undergo an electronic transition in which an outer electron drops to the incomplete shell. In such transition a photon (light or X-ray*) is emitted. In Auger effect instead of a photon ,an electron from the outermost orbit is emitted, which carries the atom's excitation energy.
