Volcan Mountain, CA, May 14, 2008

Me and Lou took an afternoon trip up to Julian. Lou got a massage from Nicole and I went for a hike up Volcan Mountain. This was my second visit, and well worth it. The oaks had finally gotten their leaves and there were patches of green grass on the upper slopes.

The entrance sign for the preserve.

There was plenty of lupin in bloom, even this late in the season.

Steve gets right in there to photograph the lupin.

The road is shaded most of the way.

This awesome trail reminds me of pleasant hikes in the Santa Cruz mountains. I really miss the forest now that I've moved back to SoCal. At least we have a little bit of woods left.

These woods are perfect. Now if this mountain burns in a huge fire, I'm falling on my sword.

The trail steepens and we pass through more deciduous forest.

Looking towards the summit. This is a great photo op.

The evening light casts long shadows on the trail.

Sunset looking toward the ocean. You can see how mountainous San Diego County really is.
