Manuel Carrasco 1917-2006

Faye Schultz, a friend of Manuel's from Oceanside wrote a poem about him, and was kind enough to allow me to post it here:

A Place in the Park

Day after day,
Be it rain, wind, frost or shine,
He was there.
Always at the park, along with his faithful companions.

Walking the field, lying under the trees or sitting on the bench,
Always enjoying the day,
Always enjoying the moment.

What a beautiful sight, seeing them there,
Faithful and loyal to each other, such love.
So reliable you could set your watch by their visits.
Knowing that if you were lucky enough to encounter them,
You would leave with a smile in your heart
And a smile on your face.

All who crossed Manny's path,
Be it two-legged or four,
Were lucky to have experienced his
Wisdom, Compassion and Sense of Being.
He grasped life and lived it to the fullest
And for that we are all blessed.

Here's to Manny...our fixture in the park.

The following clipping is from a book that commemerates his bombing squadron:

Early Years

This group shot has 1923 written on it making it the earliest photograph of Manuel Carrasco I know of.
I think Alfred might be behind Grandpa, but he's cut off.

Alfred and Manuel in about 1923. Alfred is really channeling Spanky here.

Another one of Alfred and Manuel.
