Out Of Work

Peewee holds his Physics text book in his hands, figuring at least this way his mother thinks that he's working. When she asks him to do the dishes, he says he can't, because he's doing work on his Physics text book. She gives him the evil eye and tells him that he shouldn't be lippy. However, Triston, thinking he can outsmart her, tells her that work is the product of the force he's applying on the text book to keep it off the ground and the distance his book is moving as he walks. Let's examine how much work Peewee is doing if the book is 20N and he is walking 30m:

None! Peewee forgets that his mother knows a thing or two about Physics. She says that since his force and displacement are in different directions, he isn't doing anywork. As a punishment, and in hopes that he will learn the true definition of work, she forces him to walk up the stairs (2.44m) ten times. How much work has he done now?

Triston gets a little lippy after the 9th trip so his mother must punish him again (bad boy). Triston now has to mow the lawn. If he pushes the mower with a force of 300N at a 45 degree angle, what work is he doing over 100m?

Hmm, he seems to be doing a lot of work! That doesn't make sense! It seems to be taking him forever to such a small yard. What is his rate of work (also known as POWER) if it takes him 2 hours to do the entire lawn?
