Sample Journal Entry for Naked Eye Sky Observations

1.  On the chart above, near the horizon, denote one or two of the compass points on the dotted vertical lines (e.g.:  N, S, E, or W).  If you are using 1 square = 10° of angle, make sure there are 9 squares between the compass points (for 90° of angle) and indicate your scale on the chart.

 

2.  Using the fist and pinky method for measuring angle, try to draw the constellation as you see it in the sky in the chart above.  Be as accurate as possible.  If you draw the Moon, draw it to the correct scale (the Full Moon is only 0.5° of angle in the sky).

 

3.  Connect the stars in the constellation together.
