The Big Bang Theory
Undeniable, testable observation #1: When a light source is sent through a glass prism, it breaks up the light into a rainbow profile known as a spectrum.
Undeniable, testable observation #2: Different chemicals, when burned or ionized, produce light which when passed through a glass prism, produces a distinct spectrum unique to the chemical.
Undeniable, testable observation #3: When a moving object produces sound, the overall pitch of the sound goes up when the object is moving towards you, and down if it is moving away from you. This is called Doppler shift. This also occurs in objects that produce light—the spectrum shifts towards the red (moving away from you) or towards the blue (moving towards you) portion of the spectrum depending on the object’s motion relative to you.
Undeniable, testable observation #4: Stars produce light.
Undeniable, testable observation #5: Galaxies are made up of many stars.
Undeniable, testable observation #6: Galaxies produce light.
Undeniable, testable observation #7: If a galaxy moving with respect to us, then its overall light spectrum should contain a Doppler shift.
Undeniable, testable observation #8: Almost all the galaxies visible from the Earth have a red shifted spectrum. This was Edwin Hubble’s discovery. This means that most of these galaxies are moving away from us.
Conclusion from observations: The universe that we live in is expanding—the galaxies are moving further and further apart from us, and therefore, from each other.
If we run time backwards, most galaxies appear to move towards us.
Undeniable, testable observation #9: Using distance and speed data of each galaxy, we can determine an approximate time when these galaxies left our vicinity. According to the latest data, this happened about 15 billion years ago.
So 15 billion years ago, the materials that made up these galaxies left our vicinity and moved away from us. Astronomers call this the “Big Bang” Theory—based on these observations stated above. It may not be a perfect theory, but it is still correcting itself through ongoing data collection. Some people misinterpret this as proof that the Big Bang Theory is flawed—this is not true. The numbers will be adjusted as we know and observe more in the future—the foundations of the theory are still valid no matter how the numbers change.
My Two Cents
There are many among us who do not believe that this Big Bang Theory is true. As you can see, the theory is based on undeniable, testable observations, so it holds its validity regardless of personal belief. To defy its validity is to be irrational and of unsound mind, for the points of the theory are all based on countless recorded observations.
Now, let me challenge you to find another theory based on undeniable, testable observations that explains the beginnings of the Universe. Outline each step as I have done, for each step must be clearly based on an undeniable, testable observation that anyone can observe using the proper tools.
If you cannot convey your theory in steps involving an undeniable, testable observation, then it is NOT a scientifically sound theory and MUST be discredited for it cannot be tested.
You may argue that maybe Hubble was lying about his observations—that the galaxies are not mostly redshifted in their spectra. It’s possible, but there have since been thousands of astronomers and students of astronomy who have seen these redshifted spectra with their own eyes. Data does not lie, especially if it has been observed by so many people over the years. In fact, the more observations people make, the more evidence there is towards the Big Bang Theory. And of course, refusing to observe doesn’t disprove the theory at all—it only proves the ignorance of the person.
Now you may agree with the Big Bang Theory, but you may still think that the Theory of Evolution is wrong. Evolutionism is also based on undeniable, testable observations—it is not perfect, but it is the best theory to explain the origin of the diversity of lifeforms on our planet. It can be outlined in a similar way the Big Bang Theory was outlined above.
For those of you who are staunch believers of Creationism, you will not be able to outline your theory. Faith is a respectable, honorable trait, but it should not govern how logic and science should be run. The science we teach in schools should be independent of any religious belief system. Creationism—whether it is the Hindu Creation story, the Native American Creation stories, the Judeo-Christian Creation story, or some other, is just that—a story. It is not based on undeniable, testable observations that anyone with the proper tools can observe with consistency. Therefore, it is not scientifically based and so has no bearing in being taught in schools in place of science, no matter how much faith you have in it. If you can’t outline it with testable observations that anyone with the proper tools can observe, then it is not a theory.
Creationism is not a theory. It cannot be proved on its own using observable data. And by gathering evidence that the Big Bang Theory or the Theory of Evolution is wrong, that doesn’t mean that Creationism is automatically right—it still needs to be outlineable in steps involving undeniable, testable observations.
Keep your faith in yourself and in your church—do not let it irrationally affect the empirical process known as science taught in school. Doing so will mean the downfall of human intellect and the reemergence of the similar ignorance imposed on humans during the Dark Ages. You have no right to do that to yourself or others.
