This web page is intended to correct some of the misconceptions that non-Muslim Americans have regarding Islam. All to often it is assumed that Islam has a different God that Jews and Christians and that Islam wishes Muslims to force people, such as Christians, to become Muslims,

From Mohammed: The Man and His faith, by Tor Adrae

(page 25) Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians also used Allah as the name for God for their monotheistic God.

(page 25) Allah is a contraction of ai-ilah; and the name denotes simply 'the God'.

See http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/allah.html

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God ("Alla" is the Arabic word for God)

From the Koran

Surah 11:136 - We believe in the revelation made by Allah to Abraham, Ishmael, Jacob, Moses and Jesus and all Prophets and we make no distinction between them.

Surah 109:6 - To you your religion and to me mine.

Surah 2:256 - Let there be no compulsion in religion.

Surah 57:21 - Be foremost in seeking forgiveness

Surah 3:133 - Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord

Surah 3:134 - Restrain in anger and pardon men

Surah 42:37 - When they are angry, even then forgive.

Islam Today: A Short Introduction to the Muslim World, by Akbar S. Ahmed

(page 25) - ... the Quran goes out of its way to emphasize that Christians and Jews - the people of the Book - are to be treated with special respect.

(page 25) - While Islam continues and incorporates Christianity and Judaism ...

(page 31) - The Quran explains that one of God's days may be like a thousand years (Surah 22:47) or fifty thousand years (Surah 70:4)

(page 84) - The Quran says Muslims must respect others so that they in turn will respect muslims.
