Specific physical consequences of Mach's principle, J. David Nightingale, Am. J. Phys. 45(4), April 1977

Mach's principle was put into a solid footing in one particular equation by Einstein in his general theory of relativity. Using classical physics only, we explore, in some simple examples, the major expectations concerning motions due to the matter in the rest of the universe.
