| Lab 1 - Collisions 1) Open the following page: http://www.physicslessons.com/phe/collision.htm 2) Set the mass of Wagon 1 at 1.0kg. Set the mass of Wagon 2 at 0.5kg. Set the velocity at 0.50m/s. Show how to calculate the velocity of the wagons after the collision. 3) Let the mass of Wagon 2 be 0.5kg and initial velocity be 0 m/s. What effect does varying the mass of Wagon 1 have on the velocities after collision? Explain. 4) Demonstrate the differences and similarities between elastic and non-elastic collisions using the virtual lab. Pay particular attention to momentum and kinetic energy changes. Report your results from your experiment. Report the calculations which show the differences between elastic and inelastic. To be handed in from this lab: answer the questions in Parts 2 to 4 above. Lab 2 - 2D Collisions 1) Open the following page: http://www.physicsclassroom.com/mmedia/momentum/2di.html 2) Use the information given about the blue and red cars before the collision to show the calculations that give the information about the blue and red cars after the collision. Also determine whether the collision is elastic or inelastic. That is: do a before and after analysis of momentum and kinetic energy. To be handed in from this lab: detailed collision analysis |
