| As I passed through the gates, it was like walking into a wondrous dream. All of my senses were assailed at once. The streets were full of people, all going to and coming from their various engagements...the air was full of the sounds and smells of the life blood of the town. I was traveling up the road, trying not to get in anyone's way, which was very hard since I had no idea where I was going. I ended up at the side of the road next to some of the shops. I looked around to get my bearings, and to figure out where I needed to go. It was then that I spotted the sign of the shop I was standing in front of. It was a magic shop. I could not believe it. I made my way to the open door and after garnering a little courage, I went inside. What to most people would have seemed foreign and unsettling, to me was like heaven. I turned in a small circle, trying to take it all in. There was a wall behind the counter that contained hundreds of small bottles, each containing a different magical component. There were displays of scrolls upon scrolls containing who knew what spells. There were candles, and parchment, dried flowers, and tome upon tome of old spell books. I am not sure how long I just stood there, taking it all in before the proprietor of the store came up to me. He was a kindly old man in a long white robe with an equally long white beard. I was brought out of my musing by his small cough at my back. As I whipped around, startled by the noise, he gave a little chuckle, and gently asked me, Greetings to you, young one. Is there something that I may assist you with? I...um, you....ahhh... and after a small intake of breathe on my part Yes, sir, I was looking for...I am hoping to find... You have come in search of someone to aide you with your newfound magical abilities, am I right? he finished for me, with a glint of humor in his eye. Oh, yes sir! I am sir! Yes, well, the guild is not in the habit of taking in just any urchin off the street now, new members must truly be blessed with the gift. he told me. The fact that already my abilities were already being called into question vexed me sufficiently that I overcame my preliminary nervousness and stated in no uncertain terms, I sir, do possess the gift. I have numerous spells that I have already taught to myself. With a grin on his face he asked of me, You do, now. Well, let us see these so-called spells of yours. |
