By looking at box #1, we learn a little about this character.  The first thing we learn is that his name is Newbie, he is level 11, a troll, and a Knight.  This is where you will also look to see how old you are...currently Newbie is 18 years old.

The next block of text contains two groups of information.  The information on the left is the accounting of your statistics.  There are 7 stats in Darkstone, strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, charisma and luck.  We can tell that Newbie is intensely strong,  has rational intelligence, and average wisdom.  He is a bit awkward, yet has sound constitution.  His charisma is monstrous and he has auspicious luck.  You can learn how each statistic affects your character by accessing the help file for each.  You can do this by typing the word "help" infront of the stat you want to learn about.  By typing Help Strength you can learn about strength.

The next group of information tells us a little bit about Newbie.  We can tell that currently, Newbie is standing.  If he was sleeping or resting, it would tell us that in this spot.  It next tells us that he is Devoted.  This means that he is currently aligned to the "Good" side.   Alignments run from "Fiendish" up to "Devoted"  Your alignment will fluxuate often while you level due to the varied mobiles you will have to kill as you gain experience.  When you kill good aligned mobs, it causes you to turn evil, and when you kill evil mobs, it causes you to turn good.  Most players do not worry about setting their alignments to the one they want to role play until after they have reached level 50.

Next we learn that the armor Newbie is currently wearing is "well crafted".  Each piece of armor you wear has an "armor count".  The more pieces you can wear the more count you have and the better "protected" you are.  You can go from "Improper for Adventure" all the way up to armor of an "Avatar".  There are many "slots" that armor can fit onto...and you can wear more than one item per slot.  Learning how to layer your armor in each slot comes from experimentation.  By trying pieces on, and in different layers, you gradually learn what fits together and what doesn't.  Once you have arrived at a set of armor that you are happy with, it is wise to write them all down in the slots they belong, in the order they go on...because eventually you will die, and you will have to put all the armor back on, and until you have the armor memorized, it will make getting dressed again a whole lot easier!
