Backpacking in Japan. I took a long time to pursuade Kate to go "suffering" with me. We stay at Hilton in Shinjuku, Tokyo. We went around city using the trains and make a trip to Hakone. Seeing too many temples, on our last day, we chose to visit the Toyota car show house. From Tokyo, we took the bullet train to Kyoto then to Nara. Both of us like the quaint town of Nara. We saw the best sakura in Yoshino and Kyoto. Then we head for Hiroshima. Japan really can be a culture shock. From the customs, people, language, buildings, food, arts, dance..... Although we cannot speak Japanese, we manage to ask our directions around towns and order our food pointing to plastic food replicas. The younger generation are more hesitant to assist. Rather, it is people above 30s that are helpful although they could not speak English and we ended up communicating by hand and pointing to brochures. I enjoyed the Rokyans too, although at some point, when there are no locks or the windows are made of paper, it cause us some worries. The tatami is very comfortable and warm. |
