| At the web site "How Stuff Works.com" I learned a lot about the basics of eye disorders such as farsightedness and nearsightedness, and many of the methods of treatment. The site offered great diagrams explaining the different parts of the eye and how sight is affected by the different lenses of the eye. The site offered great exlpainations on exactly how LASIK eye surgery is done and how it changes vision. The site follows a person before, during and after their surgery. This site also offered a lot of usefull information on lasers and how they work as well. The pictures and explanations helped me to understand how atoms are excited and then returned to ground state where a photon is emitted creating light. The photons are then directed with mirrors into different consentrations to create a beam of concentrated light called a laser. It talked about the many different applications of lasers from cutting fine stones to the delicate task of removing eye tissue. |
