2. Naked corpses in a triple homicide are just the beginning of the
story and the murders in this engrossing book by author Paul Wagner.
A movie stunt coordinator and two females are the victims found slain in a
houseboat. There are no witnesses to the killing.
More murders are triggered by the investigation of the crime, as a diverse
collection of sleuths enter the hunt for the killer. Officially, it is the
Sheriffs Departments case; but drug dealers have a stake, and an
ex-deputy and his teenaged son are drawn into the investigation and take on
leading roles.
Jack McBride, the former deputy sheriff, had been the best detective in the
department until drinking and brawling got him fired. His son Troy aspires to be
an investigative reporter. Friends of Troy and the school they all attend
are key elements in the story...because the houseboat killer masquerades as
a student to avoid capture.
Author Wagner weaves the killers interaction with high school students, the
misdirected murder investigation by law enforcement, and the drug dealers'
ruthless search into a compelling tale.
It is an irresistible plot, skillfully structured, plausible,
and sprinkled with humor.
Not recommended for readers under 16.
