7.16.07 :: Nothing too exciting
So, yeah, the movie night was actually at Mel's. Haha. Yeah, don't use me as your appointment reminder, okay? The movies were great. Thank You For Smoking was a riot! I should watch that again sometime.The joint JOY/LIFE Ultimate and BBQ was fun. Those LIFE-ers are some CRAZY athletes! Well, that, coming from a person who would generally run the other way at the word "sports." I haven't run around like that in a long, long, long time. Which is certainly sad. But anyway, yeah, I think I should really start exercising, if I know what's good for me. Oh, the BBQ was delicious. Bettina and Ken are great hosts. It's too bad there weren't more JOY people out!
Anyway, the grand after work plan today was to get my courses figured out for next year. Except now I can't because I need to wait and see if I'm getting any money from bursaries and other places before I can apply! Or so I think! *sigh* I have no idea why I'm so last minute here, being so excited for school and all.
Here is the tentative course list:
- Fall 2007 - Old Testament Theology and History
- Fall 2007 - Spiritual Formation (amazing course, I've heard)
- Fall 2007 - Biblical Interpretation
- Fall 2007 - Gospel, Church and Culture
- Winter 2007 - New Testament Theology and History
- Winter 2007 - Leadership Development
- Winter 2007 - Systematic Theology I
- Winter 2007 - History of Christianity I (online)
- Summer 2007 - who knows??? some elective
Man, I think the winter term is going to be killer. Double theology and history! Well, what can you do when course choice is not that great?
On another note, I've discovered that in general, on Mondays, I have "should I quit this job?" crises. I think God is trying to teach me a great big lesson on entitlement. More on that later, maybe. I'm pretty wiped from last night still. :oP
Back to compiling my 200-photo Eurotrip album.

7.14.07 :: Caiman is my friend
While I really should save up for school (oh yeah, should've worked on my bursary! d'oh!), I went on Amazon.ca and re-purchased my lost copy of Nothing Left To Lose by Mat Kearney and finally buckled into Seven Swans by Sufjan Stevens. Both were purchased through the Marketplace with Caiman USA, which offers CDs I like (and people who know me know that I listen to rather obscure stuff) at cheaper prices. Yum.On another note, I'll be going to Joeie's for pizza and movies in about 23 minutes. Mmm...

7.12.07 :: Sweet
A few notes of sweetness today:
- Lunch time at TME has been spiced up with good ol' Big 2 with Jacqueline, Hieu, Raymond and Tony
- Got to read a bit more of The Suburban Christian, and loving it
- Becca brought home a copy of CCM featuring Mat Kearney and Sufjan Stevens from her work - you're a sweetie
- Mrs. Goh came over today to have me film a sharing to show at church... then she paid me for it! (Chinese resistance skills are not working for this soon-to-be Masters student - aka. I can really use the cash!)
- A surprise package came from Patricia et al. congratulating me on my graduation (too bad customs ripped everything open, but at least the gift is intact!)
- I finally pulled out that splinter in my foot!
Also, here are some articles that I've read lately:
- Winds of Change (CCM Article): Talks about pop culture, art, music, and Christianity. And about Calvin College's Festival of Faith & Music, which seems to me the direction that Christians need to head in so that we can be relevant to the world again.
- What's next: Youth: Part of a compiled article on where Christianity has been and is heading in the 21st century. Too bad the entire thing isn't there, because there are some other great discussions on topics like missions, theology, and media. Anyway, what struck me most about the youth section was that youth pastors/leaders have realized that segregating youth from the rest of the church has bred alienation from the church among young adults. Something I grapple with as I serve on committee in JOY Fellowship.
- Just read this off the Calvin College website when I clicked on the Missions major: "Comforting the Troubled and Troubling the Comfortable" - to which I say, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
So that's me as of late. Contemplating on things like how to connect with others in a suburban context, how to create faith-infused yet relevant writing and music, how to practicing the presence of people, and how to draw young adults back into a living faith as part of a larger intergenerational community.
Answers would be nice. So would a few more burners to take the pile off the back one.

7.7.07 :: The perfect day, or seven-seven-seven
The day started off with going to Victoria and Steve's wedding. It's always nice to witness the marriage of people you know. They were both very cute (especially the part known in the program as "the marriage kiss")!Came home after eating and grocery shopping, took a nap, then finished off my insurance as the rest of my family went to the banquet for the wedding. Mmm... leftovers for me. Anyway, a few more things more to take care of (namely, prepping tomorrow's LLL class), then I hope I can plop down and watch a movie! Nice to spend a half day alone to catch up on all the stuff I need to get done! :o)

7.3.07 :: Practicing the Presence of God
So as I tested MicroP3 boards and zapped more chips today, I tried practicing His presence. It's not easy! But that much Brother Lawrence warned about.Also, as I was doing all this manual labour, this line popped into my head: "Con mis manos y mi vida, te alabo bendito Seor." How literally true it was, as I sat there using my hands to test and put things together. I wondered about all this being a worshipful experience. Let me contemplate that one a little further in the remaining days of this week.

7.2.07 :: Day off
Small group was pretty chill last night. Watched some Die Hards (haha... pointless violence, really, but it's entertaining with a bunch of good friends!), and everyone shared about their lives. Seems like people around our age struggle with the whole job situation. I've got my "should I stay at this crappy job just to make money for school?" Others contemplate whether to switch jobs, stay at the same jobs, find more fulfilling jobs, or simply wait for job opportunities to become real. It was good to be amidst such confused company.My day off was filled with completing my insurance form to claim money for my lost luggage and figuring out scholarship stuff. All relaxing and fun. Not.
Another day at the old salt mine tomorrow. I hope to live a more intentional life this week. We'll see if that pans out.
