After a giddy day at work (hot dogs! cookies! coffee! party! laughing at tourists on the double decker! stompin' with Matt's Canadian CD collection!), Becca and I walked around the market and got some fresh fruits and desserts. Had a very late dinner afterwards (coquilles saint jacques, brussell sprouts with butter, tortellini and tomato and portabello sauce - only the best for two foodies!).Let's backtrack a little... the weekend was interesting. Started off with dinner on Friday in the market area, at a Mexican restaurant (better than Peruvian food at a night club), and gelatos afterwards. Sucks being indecisive! Saturday was spent first at the Museum of Nature at the beautiful Victoria Memorial Building (I think), then a shawarma and iced coffee lunch (I am forever indebted to Nausheen for introducing me to the finer points of Middle Eastern dining). After, we went to Loeb near the market to get groceries for the Elijah BBQ that didn't happen. So we had Swiss Chalet instead before the city-wide praise night (Mississauga and Waterloo should start one of those!). Sunday was quiet... church, lunch at Pho Bo Ga La (haha), then dinner followed by the movie Nowhere in Africa (watch the trailer... very nice). So that's my itinerary for the weekend...
The movie was pretty good, even though subtitled. The theatre we watched it at was super small, but the movie was really good. I loved little Regina ("g" is sounded like the g in "gift"... German pronounciation, but anyway...) and her interaction with Owuor the cook. This WWII movie is about a German Jewish family who moves away to Kenya to escape Nazi rule, but they discover that the race relations in the country to be even more complex (well, maybe it's just the audience that discovers this, if properly primed with a review). It could have been made with a clearer focus, like focusing on Jettel and Walter's failing marriage, or on Regina's take on family and school life in Kenya. Kind of disappointed that Regina's plotline got sidelined when she became a teenager. Criticism aside, the movie was well made, with a beautiful score to accompany the gorgeous landscape of Kenya, and of course the complex and intriguing plotline. Check it out...
Okay, that's all from me for now. Gotta rest up for CANADA DAY IN THE CAPITAL TOMORROW!!! Can't wait...

It's Friday night, and what big plans I had... not. :oP Spent it in front of the television (well, at least there was Third Watch on A&E... so Emily knew about her mom's abortion even before Bosco brought it up again! but anyway...), and now, in front of the computer. I suppose the morning and afternoon were a little more eventful. After a morning of photocopying and stapling, we had our lunch on the lawn of the Parliament (ahh... the things you can do in Ottawa!) then headed over to the Museum of Civilizations over in Hull to drop off the lovely handouts I did in the morning. All in the day's work, right? Finally getting started on the new project on Monday... hope it'll be slightly different than what I've been doing for the past two months (two months!!??).Next week is full of craziness! Well, at least full of visiting people! Starts off with Cecilia and family, then onto Becca and Angela (well, I assume I'll see her, at the very least) and maybe even Niette! Then it's the big one - Canada Day! Got my Old Navy Canada Day tank all ready. Sweet. I should get more paraphernalia, but honestly, the stuff the government is putting out in conjunction with Zeller's is not exactly high quality (I'll give it not expensive). Oh well! It's Canada Day in the capital - bring on the cruddy looking maple leaf bandanas!
Anyway, I'm working my way through some fanfic writing right now, so I guess I'll stop my rambling. A few things about this site before I go - the Reading Room has a new story up, and the Music section gained a new feature - the album review by yours truly. Take it or leave it.
Okay, have a good night!

Back from my lovely trip to Mississauga. I was telling Becca that wherever I go, I feel like a tourist. Guess that's the consequences of going out of town for your co-op job, and doing school out of town too. After all, I could have chosen to attend UTM, but didn't even apply (much to Nausheen's chagrin). Oh well, it's cool exploring new places while doing something worthwhile at the same time. Maybe I'll seriously consider Sharon's offer of going overseas for a term just to spice up my life...Anyway, this weekend was much enjoyed (Moxie's, Hollywood Homicide, Le Biftèque, Golden Griddle...), so thank you to everyone who made it happen. :o) I spent nearly $200 though! Oi... thank goodness pay day is coming up. Won't be back until August. I should really finish up the roll of film that I took... I mean, why wouldn't I want to plaster pictures of 6 people sharing one dessert, 5 other people comtemplating life in front of a movie theature (well, maybe just being indecisive), photos with cows, or 3 dudes in front of the popular tourist attraction of Golden Griddle (3 pictures... what geeks we are!) on a wall? I need some housemates as subjects...
The bus ride home was decent. Got to watch (silently, because my headphone panel didn't work) Spider-Man and Waking Ned Divine for the 5 hours. The latter movie must have been funny, because the guy in front of me laughed quite a bit. Lost my watch on the transpo though... or on the street. Stupid loose watch! Oh well, gives me reason to (dish out more *gulp* money and) get a new watch. A GOOD watch, one that doesn't fall off.
Oh yeah, got two new CDs this weekend. SenseField and Thisway. I enjoy the latter more... but maybe it's because it sounds more familiar to me since that was the one I blasted while I cut out obituaries for Becca on Friday morning. SenseField is like Jimmy Eat World - both emo-core stuff. I think I should put the former in and familiarize myself with it some more.
Okay, it's back to work tomorrow. So I'll just sign off now... take care!
SONG OF THE MOMENT
He's really nice, but much too old for her
She didn't like to be that cruel
And if his scars had not shown through to her
She might be labelled a foolShe's really nice, but nice ain't everything
She'd like a man to pull these strings here
And loosen up every inch of her
She might be waving her wings
She might be waving her wings
They're really niceIt's really nice falling into place
It's really nice to be you
It's really nice to fall and fade away
Aha, aha, ahaI'm feeling low, I feel my insides burn
I'd like to take a chance with you
And if you could reconsider me
I'd be just for you
I'd be just for you
And really niceIt's really nice falling into place
It's really nice to be you
It's really nice to fall and fade away
Aha, aha, ahaWish everyone was just like me
Wish everyone was what they seemed
Wish everyone took my advice
Wish everyone was really niceIt's really nice falling into place
It's really nice to be you
It's really nice to fall and fade away
Aha, aha, aha"Nice", Thisway (from their self-titled album)
This track sounds really, really familiar. Maybe it's just a popular chord pattern or something, or maybe it was played during some WB show (the whole album sounds like a WB soundtrack or something). Who knows? But anyway, the whole album is quite enjoyable, happy and stuff. :o) Well, some songs are sad, but that's beside this is Victoria and she like songs with depressing (or reflective, as I put it) lyrics. You can download two of Thisway's new songs.June 10, 2003
This one goes out to Tsai Lo because I told him so: I got into the psych program at Waterloo. Yay! That was a while back though, so yeah, I suppose it slipped my mind. Yes... for once, school stuff is shoved to the back on my brain! In its place are things are plans with friends, what CD to bring to work, and Fight Club. The important stuff in life. ;o)Anyway, that is seriously it. Well, I guess that finishing up the last bit of my extra hours for this weekend is worth mentioning on this insignificant cyberspace that I occupy. That means I can go home at 4pm again! Yay! Okay, gotta go sleep now. Take care!

Yay! Going home this weekend. I think I am missing home lots now, but it's pretty fun in Ottawa (still, thank God!). Nonetheless, it'll be sweet to see everyone back home again. I better remember my camera so I can take some pics and develop them and adorn my wall here with it!Anyway, I suppose the past weekend was pretty packed with activities. I ate out with Marnie and Tara on Friday at So Good (it's pretty good... oh, and not to be confused with Oh So Good... haha) because once again I wanted Chinese food (had some fake stuff at Shanghai with Laura on Monday). Marnie rented The Recruit, and that was pretty much Friday.
Saturday was Ikea day with Laura and Marnie! Woohoo! I swear I'm going to buy the entire store one day. Bought 2 tealight holders, but I'd like some more because they are just so gorgeous. And I can't believe I bought stuff at Old Navy. Oh well, it's celebratory, so it's all good. Albeit all the walking in the nasty heat, the day was enjoyed. Skipped out on the party that raged downstairs... I was pooped from the shopping and walking!
Big event for Sunday was the Elijah/cell group girls picnic. That was much enjoyed as well. Note to self: no need to make 2 packages of soba noodles next time! Note to self two: don't attempt to make a new dish at a gathering. Anyway, those stories we made were pretty funny. "And with that, the Titanic set sail." Watched Fight Club with the housies at night. That movie made a significant impact in my brain, because I dreamed about it at night! It's a good movie, and although a little vulgar, it was intelligent and twisted and thought provoking. Not to mention that it has multiple Ikea mentions.
Well, all for now. Have an awesome week!
SONG OF THE MOMENT
You are the open door to freedom
You are the only hope I have
The reason in my reason
The only thing that lasts
How could I begin to settle
When all within me longs
To step into the shelter
Of your everlasting armsI wanna get carried away
I wanna be tossed by your waves
I don't care where or how deep
I'm gonna jump in with both feet
I wanna get carried away
I wanna get lost in your ways
I wanna be held by your truth
I wanna behold all of you
I'm gonna be all yours today
I wanna get carried awayYou are the wisdom of the ages
You are the one who stays the same
The power in the wind
The scent left by the rain
How can I begin to make it
If all I had was me
Just take me as I am Lord
And sweep me out to seaSome say You're far away
But I know You're here with me
I could go anywhere
And still you'd be there with me
I know You're here with me"Carried Away", SONICFLOOd (from SONICFLOOd)
SONICFLOOd's self titled album has got to be one of the best albums out there. It's so hip and worshipful and beautiful. "Carried Away" is one of my favourite tracks from the collection. It's definitely a plea from my heart too.June 3, 2003
Argh... so I wrote a big long entry and lost it because of stupid connection or whatever it is so here's the short and concise version of what I wrote. Coffeehouse awesome. Cool to serve God again. People I met a month ago showed up, very cool (even better than WAY days).Yesterday eventful. Fell down going to DIAND (almost became roadkill). Treated myself to Second Cup (sorry Tsai Lo!) afterwards. Marianne showed up before work ended. Went out to dine at Market with Matt. Strolled along canal and war memorial. Very nice.
Lots of plans to carry out. Take photos around town. Read books. Cook decent meals (right Becca?). Shop at Byward. Canada Day. Ikea. More hot dogs at work. Cool things to look forward to.
Alright, all for now. Have an awesome night!
