Rebel Battalion

Pineville High School was built in 1952. The Army affiliated JROTC Rebel Battalion was formed in 1979.

The JROTC mission is to motivate young people to be better Americans. To accomplish this goal, the unit at Pineville teaches the ethical values and principles which underline good citizenship and develop leadership potential through the study and practical application of leadership characteristics. In addition, teaching of skills including map reading, first aid training and oral communication are among many covered in the 4 year program.

The Honor Unit with Distinction is the highest unit award a JROTC organization can receive. To earn an Honor Unit with Distinction award, an organization must earn nine-hundred points out of a possible thousand points on a formal inspection. A formal inspection takes place every three years. Cadets must know:

Also inspected are the supply room and records, cadet administrative records, and all other areas of JROTC program . Each of the staff members briefs the inspectors on their duties. The Color Guards also preforms for the inspectors.

The battalion is active in the community. Participation in parades, providing color/honor guard units for conventions and dedications of new facilities. The battalion preforms 1000s of hours public service hours a year. A few ways these hours are preformed are:

Each summer a group of cadets attend an optional 1 week basic training summer camp held at Camp Beauregard. They are taught many of the skills required to be safe while away from urban areas. We also take a group out to the Leadership Reaction Course at Camp Beauregard. There a five man team is give a task to complete, with given set of tools and a 15 minute time limit. We also go Repalling. In April the whole battalion goes out to Camp Beaureguard for our annually Cadet Challange Day.

Our Drill Teams and Color Guards complete in many drill meets and parads. The Color Guards also preform at many community and school activitys. Our rifle team has performed in many meets adn win many champinships, like the state championship in 1997.

Parents, alumni, cadets and the school are proud of what the unit stands for and how it contributes positively to our society.
