Biography

Shirley Manson was born on August 26, 1966 and grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland. While growing up she dreamed of being many things such as: a ballet dancer, an astronaut, a doctor, and even a truck driver, but decided early on in life that she wanted to be an actress rather than a singer. Shirley began her singing career in 1985 at the age of 16 and has been in several bands including Angelfish and Garbage and also GMM (Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie), Autumn 1904, and the Wild Indians. In 1994 Angelfishs first single Suffocate Me aired on MTVs 120 Minutes. Steve Marker was watching 120 minutes that night and he arranged a meeting with Shirley the next day and within 24 hours of Angelfishs premiere, Shirley Manson became the lead singer of Garbage. Shirley then rewrote many of the lyrics of the songs on Garbages debut CD and wrote all the lyrics of Version 2.0 herself.
