LETTER RECEIVED 17th MAY 2001

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your letter and the enclosed £1.

I was quite amused by the letter, and definitely know where you are coming from, as I would most certainly not have got involved if Scott Dyson (the name immediately above mine) had not talked me into it!! We were out working together in late January, and he was paying for literally everything, including petrol, with the £1 coins which were in the glove box of his car, instead of using his usual credit card, so I actually saw with my own eyes that he wasn't having me on...

I followed the instructions to the letter, including sending off my £1 coins, but told nobody but Scott about it, because I still felt a fool. I got an odd £1 just over a week later, and £3 the following week. Just over 4½ weeks after I had sent out the first batch of letters, I had recouped my expenses. I had started out thinking that if I could double my money, I would be more than happy, and I had done that by the 6th week, but by that stage the money was starting to come in in worthwhile amounts most days. My biggest payout was £67 in the post just after Easter.

My total profit from the first 200 letters was just nicely over £1100.

I never expected £50,000 (frankly I think it would cause a major problem with the post!)
However, a few weeks ago I started telling friends about it, and several of them are having
a go, though most of them are still at the 'getting their money back stage'. I sent out my
second batch of 200 letters two weeks ago.

You are quite right, not everyone will forward the £1 to the five names listed. Your letter is proof of this, as I have not had anything from the L Shields who sent the letter to you... maybe when the money starts to come in her conscience will prick... I will have to see.

I have talked to a couple of friends about the 'Please add my name to your mailing list' part of the letter, and we suspect that it is this that keeps it all legal - you are paying £1 to be put on someone's mailing list. At this point I do have a list of all the people who have responded, though I honestly don't know why, but if you suddenly get a postcard from Napal, you will know that I have fulfilled a lifelong dream as a result of the letters.

For my first 200 letters, I used the Budget range of labels from New Horizon. For my second mailout, I have paid a bit more for the labels, as these are people who have not had their details sold quite so recently, so it will be interesting to see if there is a better response.

I know you said you didn't want too much detail, but I thought you might find it helpful when making your own decision about whether it is worthwhile

Yours Sincerely

E. Palmer
