Growing up just outside of Boston, from an early age I came to understand the balance of nature and the city. With both of my parents in the field of architecture family trips were spent looking at houses and buildings. Although I too am fascinated by design, the beauty of nature's design is where my passion lies. I tend to focus on the small parts of the bigger picture; the intricate designs that come together to form a larger pattern. Along the same lines, children are ideal models as they are small versions of ourselves. In a child, emotions lie close to the surface and can be examined in a brief expression. Lately i have found extreme interest in my own body. I think that during most of adolescent we are so mortified by the changes that are occurring that we have a hard time closely examining our own body to realize its full beauty.
After graduating from the University of Maryland in May 2003 I have moved back to the Boston area and have started to experiment with the digitial field of photography. Although I have found interesting ways to play with my digitial images, my heart still lies in the darkroom. I have extensive experience in the black and white darkroom and for that reason really stick with that medium as my favorite, but over the past year I have had to privledge to learn the process of using color in the darkroom. With that experience my taste has broadened to color, although I still feel that in most cases black and white expresses my visions more clearly. Recently I have become intrigued by other forms of photography, mainly using Holga and Polaroid cameras, so we'll see what happens after that. |
